Job Description

United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg seeks a strategic, mission-driven individual who will have overall responsibility for leading the strategy and implemention of the impact work of the organization (UWGRP). This includes stewardship of the impact model; leading the investments of UWGRP’s financial and nonfinancial resources to create the greatest possible impact in helping improve outcomes for individuals and families, and achieving community-level change; overseeing the development of clear strategies and key initiatives in areas of pressing community needs; assisting with the design and launch of strategic plans; working in close coordination with strategic partners as well as the United Way Network to drive UWGRP’s community impact performance; serving as a thought leader on impact inside and outside the organization; and supporting the communication of our impact work. The Vice President, Community Impact (VPCI) works closely with Resource Development to ensure the impact model is closely tied to a sustainable revenue strategy. The VPCI leads a team of professional staff that have subject matter expertise in dimensions of the impact model such as Education, Financial Stability, Health, Aging, Research, and Volunteerism. The VPCI actively looks to leverage the entire United Way organization to create impact and focuses on helping to create action-oriented solutions that change community conditions, while also engaging the community and donor populations in meaningful ways. The VPCI serves as a member of UWGRP’s Senior Leadership Team.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in micro- and/or macro-level community change work, 5 years of people management experience, and 5-10 years of experience in a leadership role; ability to interact with all levels of staff and community members; and excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Key competencies for the role include: accountability/results orientation, decision-making/risk-taking, teamwork/collaboration, relationship management, communication skills, innovation/creativity, talent builder, emotional intelligence, ambition, influence, and initiative. Experience in nonprofit management, as well as experience with the United Way system preferred. Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university required, Master’s degree preferred.
