The successful candidate will work within the College of Veterinary Medicine to maintain Animal-Related Grief and Bereavement services to clients of the VTH (Veterinary Teaching Hospital), while educating students, staff and faculty on identifying and supporting clients who would benefit from the above services. This includes providing grief support, communication support, and referrals to clients as needed. The candidate will promote general wellness among the students, staff, and faculty of the VTH with a focus on compassion fatigue and conflict management, and provide brief crisis intervention in the hospital setting.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience handling and maintaining confidential information and ability to maintain a
  • Masters of Social Work
HIPAA-compliant electronic health record.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management/social work practices.
  • Strong communication skills and community outreach experience. Ability to identify
community resources and develop educational materials for clients, students, and
employees in print, electronically, and for web access.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • License in Social Work or eligible for LSW in the Commonwealth of VA License in Clinical
Social Work or eligible for LCSW in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Prior social work experience in a clinical setting, veterinary clinic, or supporting parents or
guardians and their dependents. Examples include veterinary hospital, human hospital
emergency department, ICU, PICU, NICU, hospice, or school-based setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the unique needs of veterinary medical professionals, and
  • Use of software that VT uses for case management/ client data
allied animal health professionals in veterinary settings.
  • Certification in Veterinary Social Work Program.
  • Experience working with database management software, such as Microsoft Excel, and
  • Experience in academic setting.

  • Experience facilitating meetings.
  • Strong organizational skills.
