Veterinary Assistant Jobs

General Description:

This position is responsible for maintaining the test barn area and assisting in collecting urine samples from the horses selected for testing. The position requires the ability to work weekday nights (Fridays), weekends and Holidays, plus have the desire to work around racehorses in all different weather.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Accompany horses selected for testing from the unsaddling are to the test barn to ensure no substances are administered to the horse.
• Asist with the bathing of horses following racing.
• Assist with the collection of blood and urine samples.
• Return claim tags and head numbers to the appropriate locations.
• Clean and rake test barn area prior to racing each day.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

• Good communication skills
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Experience handling and working around horses.
• Ability to perform job duties under fast-paced and potentially stressful working conditions.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Desired:

• Ability to work with a diverse group of people including co-workers and stakeholders.
• Able to walk at a fast pace for a distance of up to 3/8 or a mile.
• Knowledge of pari-mutuel horse racing industry
• Must be reliable with a good work ethic and able to take direction and instruction.

Work Environment, Communication & Physical Abilities:

Work will be conducted in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
