Job Description

The Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) builds and protects the Ohio State brand, enhances reputation, and inspires choice across the institution’s various audiences. OMC delivers upon this vision through Scarlet Studio – a centralized shared services unit that offers a wide range of marketing and communications services and technology enablement products to colleges and units that enhance the Ohio State brand while advancing the university’s strategic goals.

Within the Office of Marketing and Communications, the UX/UI Designer provides a high-quality, effective, and efficient visual implementation of brand experience standards on Ohio State’s digital interfaces designed for user interaction. These users include current and future students and families, employees, media, and others.

The UX/UI Designer follows the lead of the Associate UX/UI Design Director to infuse brand principles into the Buckeye UX design system (BUX) through the conception and design of components and templates that adhere to brand design principles; applying best practices in user experience and user interface patterns and creating documentation and other background content to drive design system adoption. The UX/UI Designer consults with colleges and units as websites are created or redesigned in order to ensure sites align with the design system and unit needs are met.

Leveraging design system and content management system (CMS) experience, this position supports the creation and production of digital experiences. In order to contribute to best-in-class marketing performance, this position interacts primarily with peers to acquire quality assurance and accessibility sensibilities. This position may utilize user research and analytics data on digital interfaces to assess the performance of new and existing content.

With a keen eye for aesthetics and a deep appreciation for engaging digital experiences, the UX/UI Designer is a creative, driven individual and has experience with design principles and best practices. This position has a proactive work style and works well as part of a fast-paced, collaborative team.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in visual and interaction design or related field; minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in a web content management system (CMS) or user experience/user interaction, with demonstrated experience in digital design in an enterprise setting; demonstrated expertise in design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma or equivalent UX/UI design tools; exceptional attention to detail and commitment to excellence in a fast-paced, cross-collaborative environment; demonstrated understanding of user experience design, brand identity systems, color theory, typography, layout best practices.

Desired Qualifications:

Four (4) years of relevant work experience; demonstrated technical expertise creating, configuring, and testing content using a CMS; at least one (1) year of experience using common web programming languages (i.e. HTML, CSS, Javascript); understanding of accessibility best practices; experience working with Agile teams and working within an iterative, agile culture; experience working in a marketing, digital agency, or higher education setting; familiarity with marketing and production process for digital communications; experience with analytics tools and using data to make decisions.

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $73,100 to $97,500 per year.

By the start of employment, all newly hired employees must receive at least the first dose of a two-dose series or a single dose of a one-dose series COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who choose a two-dose series vaccination must receive the second dose within 45 days of their start date. Proof of vaccination will be required at time of hire.

Candidates may request a medical or religious exemption from the vaccination requirement. Campus employees may also request an exemption for personal reasons. Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, College of Medicine or OSUP Employees are not eligible for personal exemptions. All exemptions are subject to Ohio State’s approval and subject to change, including revocation, due to legal and regulatory requirements.
