About The Job
Dudek is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented entry-level urban designer to join our Planning & Urban Design (PUD) team at Dudek. This is a design-focused position and will be staffed out of our Urban Design studio in Pasadena, California.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creating 3D models and renderings/photo-simulations
- Building physical study models
- Conducting demographic, historic, precedent, and zoning/code/policy research
- Supporting at public workshops
- Preparing 2D and 3D graphics and diagrams (by hand and/or digitally)
- Preparing presentations, exhibits, and final documents/reports
- Conducting spatial analysis and preparing maps and graphics using ArcGIS
- Conducting architectural design studies in 2D and 3D, including site layout/planning, programming, massing, and calculations
- Contribute to projects from start to finish across all phases of a project, including research, analysis, design concept development, preparation of final documents, and public outreach.
- Visiting project sites across Southern California
- Collaborate with Dudek’s team of multi-disciplinary experts to address issues that relate to land use, housing, the environment, mobility, infrastructure, economics, and civil engineering.
- Duties will generally include:
- Visiting project sites across Southern California
- Preparing 2D and 3D graphics and diagrams (by hand and/or digitally)
- Conducting demographic, historic, precedent, and zoning/code/policy research
- Conducting spatial analysis and preparing maps and graphics using ArcGIS
- Conducting architectural design studies in 2D and 3D, including site layout/planning, programming, massing, and calculations
- Creating 3D models and renderings/photo-simulations
- Building physical study models
- Preparing presentations, exhibits, and final documents/reports
- Supporting at public workshops
- Work on a range of planning and urban design projects for public and private sector clients, including design and feasibility studies and concepts, vision plans, master plans, specific plans, community plans, development standards, design guidelines, and other efforts for downtown cores, transit districts, industrial districts, corridors, and neighborhoods.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work out of our Pasadena, CA office.
- Both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree related to design (e.g., urban design, architecture, landscape architecture) and/or planning (e.g., policy, urban planning, urban studies, policy).
- Graphic portfolio, work samples, and/or a website of professional and/or educational work.
- 0-3 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Capacity to be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful with a desire to learn more.
- Proficiency in using the following software: AutoCAD, Rhino/Sketchup, MS Office, and the Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of Grasshopper, V-Ray, ArcGIS, or other 3D, mapping, or rendering software is a plus.
- Willingness to experiment and tinker.
- Ability to think and write thoughtfully, just as well as thinking and drawing by hand.
Proposed Salary Range: $26-35 hourly*
- Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
