Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Dean of Students

DEPARTMENT: Upper School

REPORTS TO: Head of Upper School

FLSA: Exempt

TERM: 12 months

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage conflict resolution with Upper School students, teachers, and families
  • Teach one class
  • Oversee in-school and off-campus days of reflection and suspensions in guidance and partnership with Dean of Students
  • Member of the Upper School Administrative Team
  • Serve as liaison to the Honor Council with Dean of Students
  • Foster student enthusiasm and a sense of community by developing and implementing Upper School programs, assemblies, and student activities in partnership with the US Admin Team
  • Help to organize and execute student life events (New Student and Parent Orientation, Club Fair, Spirit Week, Assemblies, Special Events) in partnership with US Admin Team and Dean of Students
  • Advisor
  • Implement and monitor disciplinary and honor code procedures in the Upper School in partnership with Dean of Students
  • Interview and help to select prospective Upper School faculty and students
  • Help to organize and execute special events in partnership with Dean of Students (Convocation, Baccalaureate, Commencement, and Prom/Casino Party)


Class Dean

  • Lead grade-level meetings
  • Implement and monitor disciplinary and honor code procedures
  • Educate students on school policies and procedures
  • Organize student life events
  • Help to organize Special Olympics in partnership with Director of Community Service and Dean Team
  • Support Advisors with high-needs students
  • Organize and lead class retreat
  • Meet with class officers
  • Oversee a grade-level
  • Member of Dean Team
  • Chaperone events (Spirit Week, Homecoming Dance, Winter Dance, Prom/Casino, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
  • A minimum of five years teaching and administration experience in an independent school environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Bacehelor’s or Master’s degree, or post graduate work in subject matter, counseling and/or educational administration.
