Job Description
  • Participates in continuing education programs including Soarian/OMR updates to maintain competency.
  • Extent to which employee can be counted on to carry out instructions and fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Will be key resource person regarding Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE)
  • Secures old charts from Medical Record Service.
  • Utilize appropriate measures to promote and maintain patient safety.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of operation to include but not limited to the required unit specific equipment/procedures.
  • Makes follow-up office appointments for discharged patients.
  • Technically proficient in order entry.
  • Has basic understanding of types of orders and how they affect care delivery.
  • Keeps appropriate nursing member informed of reports, new orders and other messages.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of on-going unit specific performance improvement activities.
  • Participates in unit activities.
  • Proficiently navigates Soarian Clinicals Test Environment regarding order placement of medications.
  • Able to articulate the identified needs and issues from end users to support positive clinical outcomes, patient safety goals and quality initiative as they relate to CPOE.
  • Attends regular meetings of appropriate nursing staff organization, including Unit Clerk meetings.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Participates in continuing education programs.
  • Annually completes required competency assessments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of routine to be followed in fire or disaster situations.
  • Understands and assist with downtime process.
  • Interprets regulations to visitors.
  • Understands how to find nursing/physician documentation to assist providers in finding key information
  • Assembles patient's charts for admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Maintains consistent communication with nursing staff to ensure all orders are addressed/implemented.
  • Participates in physician training for CPOE.
  • Sends discharge charts to Medical Records.
  • Notifies consultants to see patients as requested. Enters consultants in the computer.
  • Maintains work area in good order.
  • Records vital signs and weight on patient charts as appropriate.
  • Stays updated in computer skills by attending additional computer education/training as system advances.
  • Utilizes communication to establish a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
  • Accurately enters patient charges via computer for services rendered or supplies used.
  • Obtains special supplies needed by physicians.
  • Follows the standards of conduct and policies and procedures of St. Mary's Medical Center and applicable laws and regulations and reports violations through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Utilizes interpersonal techniques which facilitate a productive relationship while working with colleagues and personnel.
  • Understands how orders interact with work list.
  • Notifies physicians when patients are transferred.
  • Proficiently navigates Soarian Clinicals regarding order placement of, labs, imaging and the use of Order sets.
  • Informs appropriate departments of admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Answers physician's paging calls when they are on the unit.
  • Follows all standard safety precautions.
  • Answers nurse call, telephone and contact system. Relays information to appropriate individual.
  • Makes decisions which include using the age of the patients treated when appropriate.
  • Transcribes physician's orders as required.
  • Keeps open, pleasant communications with other services.
  • Reports on the job as scheduled.
Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Clerical experience desirable, but not essential.

SKILLS: Typing and knowledge of computers recommended. BLS required.
