Job Description

I wanted to reach out about an MEP Project Manager position I am working on with a leading Design-Build Construction firm that is looking to support their major projects across the US.


Their projects include Automotive, Manufacturing, Data Centers, Distribution and Food & Beverage. This is a travelling position with paid flights home every 2 weeks, they offer project and annual bonuses, per diem, full medical coverage and the opportunity to secure long-term project work.


The company offers an ESOP program and invests extensively to build their retirement packages.


Position Overview:

The MEP Project Manager will play a pivotal role in leading and managing MEP aspects of construction projects from inception to successful completion. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with exceptional project management skills. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver, a strategic thinker, and an effective communicator.


Responsibilities:

  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Select, negotiate with, and manage MEP subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with project requirements and performance expectations.
  • Budget and Schedule: Develop comprehensive project plans, budgets, and schedules for MEP work. Monitor project progress, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Client Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with clients, providing regular updates on project status, addressing concerns, and managing expectations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including drawings, plans, specifications, change orders, and as-built records related to MEP systems.
  • Project Leadership: Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of MEP systems within construction projects. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and ensure successful outcomes.
  • Change Management: Evaluate and manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget. Collaborate with stakeholders to implement changes while minimizing impact on project objectives.
  • Resource Allocation: Efficiently allocate resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to optimize the execution of MEP activities.
  • Scope Management: Define and manage the scope of MEP work, ensuring alignment with project goals, specifications, and client requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control procedures to ensure MEP installations meet industry standards, codes, regulations, and project specifications.


Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of MEP systems, codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as an MEP Project Manager in the construction industry, with a demonstrated track record of successfully delivering complex projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Willingness to travel and work on-site as required by project locations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage budgets, and oversee schedules.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
