About The Work Unit


The mission of the Colorado State Patrol is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all persons by utilizing the strengths of its members and providing professional law enforcement services that reflect honor, duty, and respect. Through high visibility, strict enforcement, maximum resource deployment, and community education, the CSP promotes safety, protects lives, and preserves state highways.


About The Job


Plan, develop, conduct and evaluate all phases of initial, continuing education and professional development training for the Colorado State Patrol. Utilize appropriate teaching styles to ensure transfer of knowledge. Serve as agency subject matter expert for POST compliance. Ensure members receive minimum requirements to maintain POST certification.


Key Responsibilities


  • Determine training needs and formulate training programs based on industry standards and best practices.
  • Responsible for member POST training records maintenance in Colorado POST Portal.
  • Review applicable programs, state and federal statutes, legislation and written directives to align agency-required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Conduct assessments to determine effectiveness of learning opportunities to develop and implement course curriculum, delivery materials and agency needs.
  • Assist with scheduling of cadet basic schedule, continuing education, trooper and sergeant in-service.
  • Develop, prepare and modify training manuals, aids and lesson plans, reviews and evaluate training courses.

Minimum Qualifications


Option 1


  • Six years of professional experience in training coordination.

  • Two years of professional experience in training coordination.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • One year of professional experience in training coordination.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


  • Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, drug test and background investigation.
  • Must be Colorado resident at the time of application


WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Primarily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday
  • 100% of time spend in the office


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with project management, scheduling, conducting assessments, and communications as it pertains to law enforcement training.
  • Experience with distance learning and program development
  • Customer service experience and experience working with a diverse population.
  • Experience with Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (CO POST) basic training requirements and standards, as well as CO POST Rule 17 and Rule 24 guidelines.
  • Experience with developing, preparing, modifying and conducting law enforcement training.
