Job Description

VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital is at it again. We are improving on how we support specialty, surgical, emergent, and critical cases in our hospital! To do this we are adding teams to our leadership to allow us to provide the best medicine to even more patients.

We are looking for a Training and Education Manager to help us achieve our goal. Job Overview:

The Training and Education Manager is the primary champion and driver of training and education within the hospital. Associate onboarding, continuing education, training, and promotion of specialization will be core tenants of this position, coinciding with promoting evidence-based medicine for patient care to ensure the highest level of patient care and safety. The successful candidate for this position will prioritize on-the-floor training, face-to-face staff interactions, promotion of a positive work environment, and being present in all aspects of the job that is required of their team.

Salary : $ 95,000 - $ 105,000 / year, dependent on education, experience, credentials, location, nature of practice, schedule and additional responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Utilize this system for objectively tracking associate progress over time for educational opportunities, compensation advances, and accountability.
  • Training/education
    • Develop generalized training program to elevate skills and provide opportunities for growth of current and future associates.
      • The training program is to involve ongoing lecture series (live and/or pre-recorded), one-on-one sessions for individual patient concerns, wet labs, and other educational modalities as deemed appropriate.
    • A particular goal is to promote and support development and advancement of career growth of associates no matter their current position.
    • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring for associates pursuing technician specialization (VTS) in all disciplines.
    • Provide ample opportunities for learning, growth, and development for all associates across all shifts.

  • Responsible for harboring a safe space for associates to ask questions.
  • Responsible for fostering an environment that welcomes open communication and feedback among associates and with the management team.
  • Develop a reliable method of communication among all shifts and with management to facilitate timely dissemination of information.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a tiering system to accurately and fairly reflect technical staff knowledge base and technical skill level in order to appropriate match skill level with patient needs.

    • The training program is to involve ongoing lecture series (live and/or pre-recorded), one-on-one sessions for individual patient concerns, wet labs, and other educational modalities as deemed appropriate.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Attend all relevant management meetings and provide input and feedback from the training and onboarding perspective to help achieve teaching goals for the hospital and the individual associates.
  • Be involved in advanced procedures (ventilator case management, plasmapheresis, triple lumen jugular catheters, arterial catheters, etc.) to engage associates in learning and mastering these skills.
  • A particular goal is to promote and support development and advancement of career growth of associates no matter their current position.
  • Attend all relevant management meetings and provide input and feedback from the training and onboarding perspective to help achieve teaching goals for the hospital and the individual associates.
  • Patient Care
    • Ongoing involvement in patient care is required through a combination of direct patient management and involvement with associates’ cases where appropriate to support real-time growth and development.
    • Be involved in advanced procedures (ventilator case management, plasmapheresis, triple lumen jugular catheters, arterial catheters, etc.) to engage associates in learning and mastering these skills.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to focus on immediate hospital needs while maintaining vision for future department needs and goals
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • RVT or equivalent
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules to provide contact with all shifts as needed
