GS Plastic Optics is offering an exciting opportunity for experienced Tooling professionals. The Tool Room Supervisor will oversee all day to day activities in the Tool Room including, but not limited to leading tool design reviews, improvement discussions, and implementing approved changes. They will provide support and mentorship to less experienced tooling employees, and work closely with Engineering, Mold Processing and Quality teams to ensure productivity and quality expectations are met. This position also serves as the point of contact for all firm and budgetary tool quotes from suppliers and will oversee tool building activities at suppliers and internal support processes such as fixture building and diamond turning.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the entire new tool build process assuring on time delivery and budget. Participates in the design, development and testing of new tooling.
- Trouble shoots and communicates tooling concerns to the Manufacturing Managers.
- Direct and participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities.
- Determine priorities and implement cost reduction projects.
- Provides regular project updates to supervisor and project team.
- Manages inventory of all tooling supplies for GSPO, orders supplies when necessary.
- Assists program launch team in conducting new tool tryouts and other activities as scheduled.
- Work closely with other production departments to improve efficiencies as related to tooling department.
- Responsible to build the expertise of G-SPO tool room.
- Understand advanced concepts within the profession and applies knowledge and experience to complex tooling solutions.
- Recommends incorporation of new technology where feasible and practical.
- Supervises and trains Tool makers.
- Interfaces with customers, contractors and tool suppliers to develop costs and specs for outsourcing mold and fixture building.
- Document all projects with metrics and communicate to teams involved.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Hands on experience with Grinders, Mils, Lathes and preferably CNC.
- Ability to train others.
- Hands on Mold Building/Engineering experience.
- Specialized knowledge in mold design and fabrication.
- Knowledge of tooling and machinery associated with tool/mold building.
- Plano polishing and welding knowledge is a plus.
- Must have Mold Design review experience.
- High School diploma
- CAD, Mastercam/Solidworks experience, preferred.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast paced work environment.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to visualize and comprehend all aspects of a manufacturing equipment and tooling, understand the relationships of actors affecting a given situations, be attentive to detail and continually seek to improve work processes.
- Mold making, trade school course work preferred
