Tool & Die Launch Engineer, Stamping Model Y

What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Tool & Die Launch Engineer to drive projects and activities related to Production Stamping at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, TX (GFTX). The ideal candidate has experience and passion for launching new technologies, prior success in launching and maintaining stamping dies for new model vehicle programs, flexibility to operate in new and dynamic environments, and an unparalleled ability to pull people together to make things happen. This role requires travel up to 50%.
What You’ll Do

• Work closely with the Tool & Die Launch Manager on tooling specifications, systems, and work processes within the automotive stamping environment.
• Review die processes for parts to stay within cost, can meet quality targets & follow through to full production
• Responsible for production dies, process planning for new and existing projects working with stamping engineering, materials, production teams and internal / external die vendors to en
• Identify, trial, and implement any new tools, equipment, and processes.
• Specify tooling and ensure product readiness of dies, scrap shed, SPM, & no burrs/slivers
• Forge excellent cross-functional relationships between engineering, quality, projects, and manufacturing.
• Develop concept, design, the scope of work development, and full implementation for Stamping Tool & Die processes and equipment.
• Develop Statement of Work (SOW) to be delivered to suppliers for high value projects.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience in launching automotive stamping Tool & Die products
• Ability to use Catia
• Proven understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
• 3+ years of experience in a similar role, automotive Tool & Die, maintenance and repair / press equipment engineering/ process engineering or related field highly preferred
• Proficiency in CAE (Computer Aided Engineering)
• A strong sense of urgency and commitment to ship product
• Understanding of the design cycle & design problem solving processes
• Engineering degree, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional abilities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Capable of identifying critical process parameters and applying statistics to process measurement and control
