A Grad Respiratory Therapist delivers critical and non-critical patient care services to all age groups using selected invasive and noninvasive techniques related to the cardiopulmonary system. Provides respiratory care predominately in critical care areas. Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care/Equipment/Supplies:
  • Follows Standard Precautions
  • Works well with physicians to optimize patient care and to assure appropriately ordered care.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG).
  • Provides appropriate care per department P&P/algorithm for most efficient application of care.
  • Assess patients and makes appropriate recommendations based on outcomes with regard to therapeutic interventions.
  • Changes equipment when due and removes dirty/defective equipment from patient care area.
  • Performs and monitors patient progress and response to service.
  • Effectively organizes work assignment.
  • Procedure/services performed are according to department policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical situations.
  • Participates in patient rounds (if applicable).
  • Ensures disposable supplies are current and available at patient care area.
  • Performs invasive and non-invasive therapeutic/diagnostic modalities.
  • Addresses acute symptoms as well as maintenance needs.
  • Troubleshoots/operates equipment safely.
  • Appropriately sets up equipment.

Communication Written/Verbal:
  • Provides a thorough, concise report and notifies co-workers of patient transfers.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) orders are current with therapy being provided.
  • Hand-off of care performed using SBAR Model.
  • Correctly records all information in the patient legal record and maintains department records.
  • Assessments/reassessments are pertinent, informative and goal oriented.
  • Count completed to department expectation with appropriate information.
  • All therapies, treatments, interventions, etc., are documented per department standard.
  • Charges accurate and complete.

Marketing:
  • Educates patient on their disease state, wellness and home care modalities.
  • Serves as an educational resource and willingly precepts students orientees and others.
  • Functions as a preceptor (works to provide a meaningful learning experience for orientees/students).
  • Distributes patient education materials.
  • Educates patients on their disease state, wellness, home care modalities and safety.

Leadership and Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Applies technical knowledge to consult with physician with regard to cardiopulmonary status.
  • Willingly accepts responsibility when called upon and fulfills commitments.
  • Demonstrates leadership through working relationships internal and external to the department, i.e. Core Teams, PPO, Unit Base Councils.
  • Effectively utilizes downtime. Achieves goals from last year.
  • Promotes a positive and professional image both internal and external as a RCP.
  • Acts as a resource.
  • Treatments performed as related to age specific needs according to growth and development.
  • Respects and supports leadership initiatives.
  • Supportive of leadership initiatives.

Qualifications
Education: Associate or bachelor degree in respiratory therapy. Ohio respiratory license required. RRT or CRT required.
