Job Description
Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking a full-time faculty member in Theatre Performance to fill a position beginning August 2023 in the Performing Arts Department of the Visual, Performing and Media Arts (VPMA) area. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.
Montgomery College is a public, fully accredited by both Middle States and the National Accreditation of Schools of Music (NASM). The College is dedicated to student success and is widely recognized for the quality and scope of its academic programs across three campuses in Montgomery County, Maryland.
The Visual, Performing, and Media Arts (VPMA) area has outstanding programs in the performing arts. In addition to exceptional educational experiences offered in the various performing arts classes, the performing arts department also has extensive co-curricular offerings that include 3 full productions a year, scene showcase, student clubs, and other performance opportunities. The VPMA area offer over 40 concerts, 25 exhibitions, and 5 theatre productions and dance performances each year. Montgomery College has a long history of successfully preparing students for transfer to four-year institutions such as Towson University, the University of Maryland, Howard University, and many more, both regionally and beyond.
Montgomery College is dedicated to diversifying its faculty and staff, and to creating a culture of inclusiveness that allows all to thrive. In this search, knowing that faculty commitment is reflected in student success, the Art Department seeks to reinforce its commitment to inclusivity among faculty at the College. We encourage applicants who embrace equity, accessibility, anti-racist pedagogies, and inclusion. Candidates from underrepresented groups, including indigenous, Black, LatinX, TLGBQIA+, and people with disabilities, are especially encouraged to apply.
We are seeking a full-time Faculty Member in Theatre Performance and Theatre Studies for the Performing Arts Department beginning August 2023 who is excited by this level of excellence and is committed to student success. Introduction to Theatre, Fundamentals of Acting and Intermediate Acting courses are essential foundational courses that are required by Theatre majors. In addition, these courses are also of critical importance in the College’s General Education program. Other possible courses include Movement for the Performer, Voice and Diction, Script Analysis and other specialties.
Montgomery College and the VPMA areas are committed to the ongoing creative and scholarly work of our faculty. The close proximity to DC is a tremendous asset in this regard. Currently, our faculty are engaged in projects at many of the celebrated theatre institutions in our own backyard, including Olney Theatre, the Mosaic Theatre, Ford’s Theatre, Toby’s Dinner Theatre and Signature Theatre, among others. This connection to the vibrant art scene in the region also allows opportunities to bring guest artists from the professional world onto our campuses and into our classrooms.
The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, artistic leadership, committee work and utilizing instructional technology.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, and/or hybrid, during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses as well as a virtual campus and instructs a few select courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses.
The majority of our courses use open educational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the students and the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline.
The faculty assignment begins August 2023.
Duties include but are not limited to:
