Job Description

Context of the Role:

Grain-to-glass sustainability is one of Diageo’s “must-dos” and is part of Diageo’s larger “Spirit of Progress” goals for 2030. These goals are specific, timebound and ambitious. They include a dedication and commitment to becoming net carbon zero in all our direct operations by 2030 and reducing our carbon footprint by 50% in our indirect operations. Due to its fast growth, the tequila category presents a major challenge for the delivery of Diageo’s 2030 goals and requires clear sustainability leadership and action.

Major Projects/Work streams this person will lead

  • Engaging, collaborating, and advocating for change across regions, sectors and markets.
  • Casamigos Sustainability: Work has not yet begun on a sustainability strategy for Casamigos and yet forecasts indicate that, by 2030, Casamigos may be even larger than Don Julio. The starting point is an LCA for Casamigos, after which a Casamigos Sustainability Strategy and 18-month Roadmap can be proposed and aligned by the Project Manager working with Bianca Woolley on the Global Brand Sustainability team, following the Don Julio process. The Casamigos and Don Julio Sustainability Strategies should be closely aligned, together crafting a Diageo approach to sustainable tequila. Any resulting Casamigos’s specific sustainability work stream/s can then be led by the Tequila Sustainability Project Manager.
  • Lead the Sustainability Steering Committee guaranteeing projects are clear and at the pace needed to deliver long-term ambitions.
  • Oversee all Tequila Sustainability Initiatives consolidating Supply, CR and Marketing core projects with status and actions needed.
  • Tequila Category Sustainability: At a category level, this project manager would be responsible for:
  • Staying up to date with consumer sustainability trends/concerns as they relate to tequila and highlighting them proactively as needed.
  • Lead all consumer communication for our brands delivering assets and plans that potentialize initiatives to final consumers. Partner with CR to build a cohesive internal and external communication plan guaranteeing consistency and transparency.
  • Building glass recycling capabilities (and then potentially reuse) and new habits with consumers and trade (Mexico).
  • Deliver Tequila brand's transformation to sustainable luxury glass packaging in tequila (the biggest need/opportunity for carbon reduction towards 2030 goals). This will require:
  • Embed carbon reduction practices in marketing operations for the category, helping teams to implement Diageo marketing sustainability guidelines across POS, advertising development etc.
  • Create shifts in luxury tequila packaging codes in consumers’ minds e.g. ‘lightweight luxury’ (NAM, Mexico Colombia, CCA, Southern Europe, Eastern Europe, GB, GT).
  • Annually updating the brand carbon waterfalls to track progress of projects delivered, expected impact of projects in motion and identifying/solving for gaps.

  • Build all other brands’ Sustainability Strategies and add Mezcal into the equation.
