Job Description

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a temporary Audiovisual Archivist. As part of a project to implement a digital strategy for the Museum's growing archive of non-collection digital media assets, the Audiovisual Archivist will gather, document, and catalog information about assets produced and stored by departments throughout the Museum. The position will work closely with point people to assess their digital media assets. The expected duration of this full-time position is six months.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies at-risk hardware and files formats.
  • Details a storage and preservation plan for the material that will include prioritization based on significance, format obsolescence and other preservation considerations.
  • Documents and reports findings to departments that are aiding in project decisions.
  • Creates a detailed inventory of assets for each department producing media.
  • Identifies and addresses duplicates.

Requirements:

  • Proficient with Adobe Premiere, Bridge, and VLC. Collection database software (TMS) and Terminal/Command line experience a plus.
  • Very detail-oriented and highly-organized.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, with at least two years’ experience working in archives, library science, and/or moving image archiving and preservation (internships are acceptable) or equivalent.
  • Expert familiarity with best standards and practices for digital video and audio archiving and preservation.
  • Experience inventorying, cataloging and organizing digital video and audio assets.
  • Understanding of file naming, taxonomy, metadata standards and applications relating to digital video and audio.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently.

Reports to: Digital Assets Manager, Imaging and Visual Resources

Salary Range: Minimum of $2,700 to a maximum of $2,850 biweekly
