Role Summary

To lead and engage all team members effectively to achieve established business targets and improvements of OEE results. Work cells, processes and Team Members as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation of employee suggestions.
  • Audits hourly work cell performance and takes action if performance is below standard to ensure that shift targets are met.
  • Drives 5S and work cell safety performance to achieve a green status every month.
  • Provide feedback to Team Members’ concerns within 48 hours.
  • Participate in changeover activities.
  • Ensure Team members are cross trained for at least 5 jobs.
  • Conducts weekly audits of Team Members to follow Standardized Work (SWI) as documented. Ensures that Team Members can recite SWI and corrects as needed.
  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen Events engaging team members.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, collaborative team environment.
  • Ensures good communication with all team members.
  • Fill in temporarily for Team Members that are absent or need to leave the line (ex. bathroom break, etc.).
  • Perform periodic quality checks to support Operators with the objective to allow operators to produce parts and maintain SWI focus and high OEE.
  • Audit 5S and continuously improve 5S by engaging team members.
  • Improving OEE by engaging all team members and applying lean manufacturing theories.
  • Facilitates and reports out in (L2 and L3) supervisor and operations meetings on work cell performance
  • Engages team members to improve ergonomically layout of work stations.
  • Apply JR (Job Relations) training to establish world class Relations between leadership and Team members.
  • Ensures all team members are effectively trained via the TWI JI method.
  • Performs LPA’s and other audits as assigned.
  • Is available in the production area to be able to respond immediately to Team Members call for help (Andon) with the main goal of assisting the Team Member overcome the problem to preserve output for the customer.
  • Participating in the maintenance, training, and continuous improvement of Team Member Standardized Work.
  • Escalate all open issues not addressed in a timely manner by support functions to the Supervisors within 48 hours.
  • Facilitates pre-shift meetings (L1) to ensure team members have the information they need to achieve the daily objectives.
  • Observes each Team Member once per week (once every 2nd week for cycle times over 2 minutes, which includes long cycle work) performing standardized work to ensure it is being performed correctly, immediately addresses abnormalities and documents the results.
  • Reviews hour-by-hour performance at the workstation hourly at a minimum and takes action to solve problems that impact performance, reports out first hour performance to the Group Leader (Supervisor) at the Tier 2 shop floor meeting along with any issues that will prevent the Team from reaching their goal.
  • Ensure that team meets established production objectives for SQTCM. (Safety, Quality, Timing, Cost and Motivation).
  • Follow the LSW established for this leader position.
  • Audit and sign of that all safety checks were completed.
  • Perform the start of shift activities of; 1. Review of previous shift information regarding safety, quality, and productivity issues, 2. Make work assignment adjustments based on absenteeism, training, etc. 3. Walk the production area to confirm 5S, equipment readiness, and material supply conditions are to standard, 4. Facilitates pre-shift Team Member Tier 1 meeting and end of shift activities of; 1. Prepare safety, quality and productivity communication information for next shift, 2. Check that 5S, equipment readiness, and material supply conditions are to standard at end of shift.
  • Ensure that all documentation in the work cell is maintained, up to date and that team member understand the information and the purpose of the information provided.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Is trained and applies JR training with all employees.
  • Investigate and implement counter measures for shift incidents along with appropriate departments.
  • Must be competent to train new and existing direct reports. Mentors, coaches and trains team members with TWI method utilizing JES documents and SWI charts.
  • Operate the Hilo, crane and any other equipment required to transfer equipment.
  • Ensure proper Labeling identification and disposition of products.
  • Ensure that only trained operators are assigned to jobs.
  • Is knowledgeable of the SQTCM improvement targets for their team and can demonstrate with documentation that the team is working on achieving measurable improvements.
  • Observes each Team Member once per week (once every 2nd week for cycle times over 2 minutes, which includes long cycle work) performing standardized work to ensure it is being performed correctly, immediately addresses abnormalities and documents the results.
  • Assist the organization in implementation of MAFACT, including lean, standardized work and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities outside their current location of responsibility to improve their capability and skills.
  • Complete A3 problem solving and Mishit 8D reports as necessary.
  • Understands and can present the status of at least one problem solving (follows PDCA methodology) activity that he/she is leading at the Tier 3 meeting on the shop floor with production support group members.
  • Review active Quality Alerts and ensure the team is aware of the issues.
  • Reviews hour-by-hour performance at the workstation hourly at a minimum and takes action to solve problems that impact performance, reports out first hour performance to the Group Leader (Supervisor) at the Tier 2 shop floor meeting along with any issues that will prevent the Team from reaching their goal.

Additional Information

  • Assist with supervision of all employees in the Production Department including Operators, Die Setters, Hi-lo drivers, Custodian. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of direct reports. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, mentoring and coaching, planning, assigning and directing work, resolving problems.
  • 3 years’ related work experience, 3 years supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Must be able to successfully train Operators following SWI and JES for each operating station. Able to work weekends when needed. Willingness to attend training and develop skills. Demonstrates creativity, initiative and problem solving skills. Results orientated team player, high energy level and good attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent attendance and satisfactory work performance record.
  • Hi-lo permit.
