Summary: The Systems Administrator II is responsible for the deployment and maintaining all aspects of M365 for the enterprise. They are the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all things M365. In addition, they are responsible for the on-premises Microsoft Exchange environment in a hybrid configuration and routine server work in general.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Experience with Exchange Online in a hybrid environment.
  • Be the subject matter expert (SME) for Microsoft 365 for the company and securing all aspects of the M365 environment.
  • Be the subject matter expert for the on-premise Microsoft Exchange environment


  • Assists, and may perform, software installations and upgrades to hardware and operating system software; in accordance with established information technology policies and procedures.
  • Recommends standard operating processes and procedures.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies and leads the mitigation and resolution processes.
  • Researches, develops, and recommends new technologies and best practices.
  • Coordinates with the Infrastructure team to put in place a backup solution for M365.
  • Performs other duties as outlined in individual objectives.
  • Monitor servers/systems health using management tools and respond to alerts as they arise.
  • Provides recommendations regarding hardware and system software planning and budgeting.
  • Ability to use professional concepts, and creativity to solve complex problems.
  • This position involves regular access to specified Personal Identifiable Information (PII)
  • This is primarily a remote position but incidental onsite visits, to the office or data center, may be required.
  • Thorough documentation of systems, infrastructure, processes, procedures, tickets, etc.
  • Ensures the integrity of the infrastructure hardware and operating system software.
  • Available to provide On-Call support, on a rotating basis, outside normal business hours to ensure 24/7 availability of services and infrastructure.
  • Will take ownership and become the subject matter expert (SME) on certain systems/applications/processes/vendors within the infrastructure.
  • Resolve basic procedural, operational, and technical problems.
  • Complies with and follows all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Mentors Help Desk team members and educates users.
  • Maintains the company’s adherence to technology requirements for security & privacy.
  • Knowledge of M365 Security and Compliance related technologies including retention policies.
  • Experience with Azure AD Connect and syncing objects from on-prem AD to Azure AD.
  • Knowledge of Azure AD Authentication, Identity and Access Management (IAM), and Conditional Access Policies.
  • Performs basic server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, researching event log warnings and errors, and continuous resource monitoring to ensure system architecture components work together seamlessly.
  • Addresses and troubleshoots issues, follows them through to resolution, escalating as necessary and creates RCAs.
  • Owns assigned projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within a larger business initiative and communicates project status, activities, and achievements with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Experience in developing solutions to problems and following standard practices and procedures in analyzing reported issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written required.
  • Responsible for aspects of M365, including SharePoint Online, MS Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, etc.
  • Provides next level support for the Help Desk team, works assigned trouble tickets/requests to resolution and supports other System Administrators.
  • Interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed.
  • Microsoft Server administration and maintenance for on premise, virtual and cloud to include Active Directory, Group Policies, and DNS.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.



Experience: 2-3 years of experience in a medium to large organization supporting over 300 employees in multiple locations. 3-5 years experience in administrating, managing, and implementing Microsoft/Office 365. 2-3 years experience in administrating and managing an on premise Microsoft Exchange environment. 2-3 years experience in administrating and managing Microsoft servers and Active Directory



Skills: Microsoft technologies to include Windows Servers, Active Directory, Exchange/O365, troubleshooting issues, communication, documentation. Microsoft and other certifications preferred.


Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before managers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Other Skills and Abilities: Excellent time management, decision making, prioritization and organization skills. Working knowledge of antivirus and firewall solutions. Proven technical aptitude and proven customer service aptitude.
