Job Description

The Recreation Division seeks a positive, energetic professional to join our team to provide excellent swim lessons to the citizens of Johnson County and community visitors. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of recreational opportunities and improved quality of life for the citizens of Johnson County!

JOB SUMMARY: Part Time instructors will ensure the class safety of participants while providing a fun swimming class environment at the indoor aquatic facility located at the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with students, parents, and facility staff.
  • Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility to prevent accidents or emergency situations.
  • Educate class participants on the rules and regulations of the facility
  • Complete all appropriate lesson paperwork during the shift.
  • Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
  • Provide a fun swim lesson experience for participants and parents.
  • Provide exemplary customer service ensuring the best swim lesson experience for students and parents
  • Teach swim lesson classes as scheduled

WORK LOCATIONS:
Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center - 17251 W. 87th St., Lenexa, KS 66219
Days: Monday - Saturday, occasional Sundays

Hours: Under 1,000 hours per year

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 • Completion of JCPRD’s swim lesson training course • American Red Cross First aid & CPR Certification required • Strong communication and customer service skills along with the ability to work with all ages. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions • Ability to maintain good physical condition, as well as professional work-related practices – alertness, dependability, and courteousness • Criminal background check and drug testing is required.

Miscellaneous Information

Compensated training for pieces of training. Paid ongoing training. Eligible for paid time off. Earn complimentary seasonal pass(es). Year-round positions are available.
