POSITION PURPOSE
The UW Bothell Sustainability Coordinator (SC) leads and implements campus wide initiatives involving environmentally sustainable practices in close collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and community partners. Assists in defining sustainability goals and tracking key sustainability indicators that focus on the UW Bothell 21st Century Campus Sustainability Initiative. Proposing and promoting new sustainability initiatives that put our campus at the forefront of environmental sustainability. Work closely with the Campus Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (CACES) and other stakeholders to promote the economic, social, and environmental benefits of sustainability. This position engages students, faculty, and staff in campus wide sustainability initiatives thorough behavior change and educational programs to promote campus wide sustainability initiatives. The work environment is a blend of office work and field work.

DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PLANNING and OUTREACH:
  • Experience in sustainability-related outreach, communication, education, training, or similar areas. Ability to effectively communicate with and engage a wide range of groups (faculty, staff, students, community organizations, etc.).
  • Produce content for educational workshops and related educational material using Word, Excel, Powerpoint, web publishing software, and other computer programs.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Provide training and guidance to the Bothell campus community and serve as a central information source about campus sustainability initiatives.
  • Work is performed in a variety of settings including outdoors and in various weather conditions.
  • Some extended periods of standing as well as sitting at a computer are required.
  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Sustainability, or related field.
  • Research funding sources, identify grant opportunities, prepare grant proposals, and administer grant contracts related to sustainability projects. WEB CONTENT MANAGEMENT:
  • Design and monitor programs to educate students, faculty, and staff about sustainability.
  • Work with Campus groups, like CACES, Facilities, Student Sustainability Organization and other student organizations, and community groups, to provide subject matter expertise related to coordinating sustainability and planning impactful initiatives across the campus and surrounding community.
  • Two years of experience developing, maintaining, or managing sustainability outreach, training initiatives, projects, and programs.
  • Plan and promote campus wide events surrounding Earth Week, Household Hazardous waste recycling events, sustainability events, recycling initiatives, and campus tour content related to sustainability.
  • Work with campus planning and design committees to integrate sustainable building practices in all areas of building design, landscape design, construction, and remodeling. CONTENT DEVELOPMENT and EDUCATION:
  • Establish a mechanism for collecting, organizing, tracking, and validating data used to document sustainability efforts including water use, waste recycling, carbon emissions, monitoring stormwater impact to wetlands, and other metrics that fits with external sustainability accreditation and recognition systems such as STARS, LEED, Salmon safe, etc. FUNDING SOURCE IDENTIFICATION:
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage several projects at once.
  • Occasional lifting of materials that may weigh up to 40 pounds may occur.
  • Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation skills. Ability to use computers, including Microsoft Office suite CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Develop public outreach campaigns, give public tours, and present at conferences. PROGRAM DOCUMENTATION and VALIDATION:
  • Coordinate with academic community to promote and integrate sustainability across the curriculum.
  • Recruit, interview, and manage student interns performing research or work on sustainability projects; help manage students working within university departments on sustainability related projects.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
