Position Announcement


The College of Engineering and Technology is seeking a support technician to support IT systems in the Transportation Department. Advises faculty and staff on purchase of new computers. Repairs and maintains IT systems in the Transportation area, including desktop and laptop computers. Installs and maintains software pertaining to transportation (mainly automotive).


Documents and maintains technical procedures and responds to user requests and service calls. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, configures, and maintains hardware, software, wireless devices, and operating systems, including Windows, Mac, and peripheral devices ? including networked and local printers, PDAs, and projectors. Updates and deploys software images on PC and Mac computers.


Summary Of Responsibilities


  • Consult and advise faculty and staff on their computer needs (best options for computer and peripheral devices and help ordering a computer).
  • Advise and train faculty or staff on printing, email, login, VPN access, wireless access, cloud storage, Office 365, Microsoft Teams, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical problems regarding computers, printers, email, login, VPN access, wireless access, cloud storage, Office 365, Microsoft Teams, etc.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


This is a career ladder position with three levels with minimum qualifications as defined:


Level I: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, and work experience totaling 1 year related to the essential functions/duties of the position.


Level II: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, and work experience totaling 2 years related to the essential functions/duties of the position.


Level III: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, and work experience totaling 3 years related to the essential functions/duties of the position. Also required to have a current industry recognized certification applicable to the essential functions.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of various computer applications, including Office 365 software, internet tools, diagnostic tools, and email systems.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems.
  • Demonstrated skills communicating to customers in a user-friendly manner.
  • Experience installing troubleshooting and updating a wide variety of application software.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and application network protocols, operating system configuration, and anti-virus software.
  • Ability to be highly self-motivated.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working in a customer service, team-oriented collaborative environment.
  • Experience in troubleshooting hardware and software problems and researching technical issues.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and updating Windows and Mac operating systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
