Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Supervisor II to manage the functional responsibilities of the diagnostic development and fielding employees in the Applied Physics department and work as part of a multidisciplinary team collecting relevant data in support of the Stockpile Stewardship mission.


Key Responsibilities


  • Ensure team is meeting customer expectations and deliverables.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy required in ensuring that policy decisions, procedures, and operations are compliant with MSTS and DOE regulations, procedures, and federal and state laws.
  • Conduct periodic assessments and identify compliance issues, concerns and deficiencies with recommended corrective actions and plans.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to deal with conflicting personalities in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality is required.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ensure materials, products, and equipment meet quality standards.
  • The Primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas (NLV), Nevada, however work may be performed remotely with the contiguous United States, in accordance with Company policy; reports to NNSS and other locations as deemed necessary.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Directly supervises multidisciplinary team of technicians, engineers, and scientists, including monitoring their work performance against specific goals and metrics, approving time, and participating in the recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training of staff.
  • Perform additional duties unique to this position as assigned by manager.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities, and apply leadership concepts with an emphasis on continuous improvement and team building.
  • Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
  • Works with managers, supervisors, and employees to deconflict work and resolve issues.
  • Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient and effective manner while meeting required deadlines.
  • Able to develop and maintain relationships with all levels of employees throughout the company, customers, and outside agencies.
  • Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday-Thursday (subject to change).
  • Minimum of 8 years of electro-optics, electronics, and progressively responsible experience preferred.
  • Must be able to lead teams and foster teamwork within the department.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Provide day-to-day work direction while ensuring scope, schedule and budget are met.
  • Will perform work of the same type as those being supervised, as well as, providing technical guidance when necessary.
  • Establish activity level work control documents and conducts pre-job and post-job briefings.


MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.


Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is $96,387.20 - $154,211.20.


Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
