Join us for an exceptional 11 week paid internship that offers the opportunity to drive meaningful change and to tackle the most pressing injustices in our day. Vera’s summer internship will give you the opportunity to work with passionate, diverse, dynamic, and innovative individuals to work on complex projects. You will have the opportunity to apply some of the skills you’ve acquired in school as well as learn from our amazing staff. In addition to having the opportunity for personal and professional development, you’ll:

■ Network with and learn from Vera’s Leadership Team;

■ Attend brown bags to enhance your understanding of criminal justice

reform;

■ Develop your professional and personal network;

■ Gain valuable work experience via real-world problem solving;

■ Learn the inner workings of a non-profit leader in in criminal justice reform;

■ Cultivate your passion for equal justice for all!

Vera offers summer internships to high school, undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines of study. Some preference is given to applicants with demonstrated experience and/or interest in the field of social and/or criminal justice. However, qualifications and responsibilities vary by department. What You'll Work On

Our Development Intern provides a wide range of database, research, and administrative support to Vera’s Development Department. In return, Vera will provide an opportunity for the intern to gain experience in and familiarity with areas such as fundraising, donor cultivation, philanthropy, and non-profit administration.

Responsibilities include:

■ Maintain donor and grant databases and files, including recording donations

and tracking donor communications

■ Generate and send donor acknowledgments

■ Research individual, foundation, and government donors

■ Support for fundraising and cultivation mailings

■ Assist with tracking of workplace giving campaigns

■ Assist with grant application and report writing and tracking

■ Support for special events

■ General department administrative tasks and special projects

Successful Vera interns bring the following skills and competencies to our work:

■ Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program

■ Interest in a nonprofit career, particularly in development and fundraising

■ Ability to show initiative, ask questions, and adapt to changing priorities

■ Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

■ Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

■ Experience with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new technologies.

■ A demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

The Nitty-Gritty:

■ Internships start on June 3rd and end on August 16th, with some flexibility

to accommodate school schedules

■ Interns are paid $16 per hour for a 35 hour work week

■ Internships are centered onsite from one of our offices (NYC, DC, LA, or

New Orleans).

■ Internships are filled on a rolling basis. It is suggested that you apply as soon

as possible.
