JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing and the Nurse Manager, this position provides professional nursing care and health services, including nursing assessments, examinations, and treatment. Our College Health Nurses provide patient-focused advice and education. Conducts health promotion and educational outreach. Collaborates with other providers to enable the student to attain and maintain health. Supports the maintenance and improvement of the health of students, identifying and assisting in removing or modifying health-related barriers and supporting early detection and early intervention strategies. Refers students to other resources as appropriate; maintains electronic medical records and ensures compliance with state laws and regulations, SHaW policies and procedures, and program protocols.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with healthcare team to formulate individualized plans of care for student patients.
- Maintains proper clinical records and reports. Maintains drugs, medical supplies, and equipment as necessary.
- Administers medications and treatments via established protocols as authorized by licensed Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.
- Provides specific health counseling and general health education to concerned individuals, patients, and groups.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Refers patients for specialized medical care beyond the scope of the Student Health Service, including arrangements for any necessary ambulance transportation.
- Interviews patients, documents medical history, examines patients, and makes assessments and/or physical diagnosis of condition of such patient. Counsels patient with regard to treatment and prevention.
- Participates in and/or conducts in-service presentations. Participates in various SHaW and University committees and advisory groups.
- Gives necessary emergency treatment and referral to anyone ill/injured on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- CPR Certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or other health-related field.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of CT.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships.
- Utilization of an electronic health record.
- Must have a demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.
- Demonstrable physical assessment skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information.
- Three years of current nursing experience working directly with adolescents/young adults in ambulatory care, public health, emergency setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a college health setting.
- IV placement skills.
- Experience providing nursing telephone advice/triage.
- ACLS.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a permanent 9-month position (35 hours weekly) from mid-August through mid-May annually. This opening is for a day/evening rotation including an occasional weekend. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is mainly located in Storrs but may include travel to Regional campuses. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
