Overview (Scope of Role)

The Benefits Specialist will focus primarily on the US Health & Welfare and Wellbeing programs for North America. Through collaboration with internal stakeholders and outsourced providers, this position creates a positive, productive experience for the employees and vendors they interact with, who may seek assistance on a broad range of matters pertaining to our US Benefits Programs. This individual benchmarks data and has the pulse on the employee population and delivers ideas and programs that further Trinseo’s position as a great place to work. Finally, this Total Rewards team member projects confidence, professionalism and genuine concern for matters brought forward – by collaborating and following through to ensure that all issues are resolved in a timely manner.

Reporting directly to the Sr. Benefits Specialist, this flexible-hybrid position will be based at our Wayne, PA location.


Responsibilities:

  • Develops/executes project plans and annual calendar for health, welfare, and wellness initiatives in line with US employee engagement activities and employee benefits priorities.
  • Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefit enrollments and changes are entered appropriately in Workday.
  • Preparation of invoices and purchase orders for payment of all Health & Welfare benefit plans. Oversees monthly payments. Actively contributes to delivering, maintaining, and improving procedures and processes to increase employee satisfaction and engagement, drive performance and achieve results.
  • Manages relationships and contracts with vendors and third-party administrators. Resolve administrative issues with the carrier representatives.
  • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs.
  • Responsible for understanding, collecting, and benchmarking of competitive market data as needed and preparing business cases and plans for recommendation changes to current programs and/or implementation of new programs.
  • Manages Leave of Absence outsourced benefit
  • Project leader to deliver benefit/wellbeing initiatives, including annual enrollment.
  • Handles enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, distributions, loans, hardships, compliance testing, etc.
  • Conducts analysis and reporting to ensure compliance of benefit provisions and provide insights for Trinseo benefit reviews. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
  • Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits self-enrollment system.
  • Provides support and responds to sophisticated inquiries related to the Health & Welfare plans, including employee and retiree queries, as needed.
  • Crafts, reviews, and updates benefit and wellbeing communications for US employees (e.g., quarterly newsletter).
  • Assist in preparation of Monthly HRPB Update Meeting
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned
  • Assist with creation and distribution of Quarterly Benefits Newsletter
  • Undertakes day to day administration of Health & Welfare benefits for U.S
  • Participates in merger and acquisition activities.
  • Identifies and leads employee engagement activities as appropriate.
  • Prepare and set up meetings and educational seminars designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs.
  • With HRIS/IT support, coordinates transfer of data to external contacts and vendors for services, premiums, and plan administration in conjunction with the internal Total Rewards team and respective HRIS system(s).

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • Experience with administration of 401(k) plans.
  • Adept at partnering with internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Workday experience is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of benefits experience, preferably supporting a large US population.
  • Strong vendor management skills.
  • Proficiency with crafting and delivering presentations to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal health care regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Experience in the day-to-day operation of US Health & Welfare plans in an outsourced benefit environment.
  • Strong computer proficiency including MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and/or priorities with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience in an HR Service Center preferred but not required.
