Job Description

TAI Engineering has consistently been recognized by professional publications such as Engineering News Record (ENR) and Baltimore Business Journal (BBJ) as a Top National Design Firm in the US, Top Company, and Fastest Growing Company. Our Structural Steel Services division is looking to hire a Structural Welder to support our operations in and surrounding Baltimore.

TAI’s Structural Steel Services division retains highly experienced personnel to provide steel fabrication, erection, and structural project field services support for industrial and manufacturing industries. This group works toward securing structurally specific construction projects as well as providing structural support for other SCI construction divisions and pursuing self-performance opportunities arising from TAI engineering design projects.

The Structural Welder will build high-quality structural steel components for our industrial projects. As a Structural Welder, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, fabricating metal components or structures, and performing quality checks on finished products.

The Structural Welder may also support provide ironworking support in the field as necessary. Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Operate various metal forming and cutting machines such as Rollers, Shears, Iron Worker, Brakes, Drill Presses, and Saws.
  • Adhere to AWS D1.1 and other industry codes.
  • Measure and cut metal parts to exact specifications
  • Clean and maintain all tools and equipment to ensure they remain in good condition
  • Operate tag lines, forklifts and other machinery to safely move metal pieces into position
  • Install or fabricate metal pieces into columns, girders, or other structural frameworks
  • Follow all industry and governmental regulations on safety protocols
  • Repair or replace existing steel parts of buildings and other structures
  • Read and understand blueprints and project layout

Qualifications:

  • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
  • Current AWS D1.1 certification
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Welder/Fabricator within a relevant industry
  • OSHA 10 certification is required or ability to obtain certification within first 30 days of employment.
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan and perform work activities independently.
  • Proficient in industry tools and equipment, such as hand and power tools and welding devices
  • Knowledge of how to handle metal properly

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Occasionally lift and move equipment in excess of 100lbs in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions as needed.
  • Consistently ascend and descend portable and fixed ladders, scaffolding and other equipment used to reach equipment at various levels of height some of which maybe in excess of 25 feet in a safe manner.
  • The person in this position needs to frequently move about client’s facilities and offices to access equipment and complete tasks.
  • Frequently move tools and equipment weighing up to 50lbs across client facilities as needed to complete tasks.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend a large quantity of stairways at any given time.
