About the Department

The University of Chicago Press Distribution Center (CDC) is a state-of-the-art distribution and fulfillment operation, providing a full range of services to the University of Chicago Press and scholarly publishers worldwide. Located in the Historic Pullman District near 110th Langley, the CDC is conveniently located near the Metra and the Bishop Ford Freeway. The facility is two hundred seventy-three thousand square feet housing nearly twelve million books in inventory, and more than nineteen thousand units shipped daily. Job Information

Job Summary:
This position will be primarily responsible for regularly performing warehouse shipping and receiving duties and all duties of the Stock Clerk II, as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor/Manager and Director.
Responsibilities:
  • Receive small orders weighing approximately three pounds from the pickers.
  • Fulfilling outbound orders.
  • Moving inventory, bulk or otherwise, between satellite warehouses.
  • Put pallets of incoming stock in proper bulk storage locations.
  • Replenish bins with books received from the stock pickers.
Competencies:
  • Manage interpersonal relationships and interact/communicate with clarity, tact and courtesy with patrons, staff, faculty, students, and others.
  • Work effectively with supervision and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with CRT terminal preferred.
  • Other warehouse functions as instructed, dusting/cleaning, sweeping, moving stock and packing materials.
  • Ability to type preferred.
  • Ability to read and calculate simple mathematical problems required.
  • Identify priorities.
  • Recognize and resolve or refer problems.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Forklift experience and permit certification preferred.
  • Stockroom/receiving experience preferred.
  • Use or learn a range of position-related software applications.
  • Familiarity with material handling equipment required.

  • Material Handling equipment experience required.
  • Forklift experience and permit certification preferred.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Work at height in material handling equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRT terminal preferred.
  • Ability to read and calculate simple mathematical problems required.
  • Ability to obtain permit certification within probationary period preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Exposure to heights.

Pay Range:
  • $16.94- $19.57 per hour
