About the Department

The University of Chicago Press Distribution Center (CDC) provides distribution services to the University of Chicago Press and other scholarly publishers from around the world. The services CDC provides to publishers include: • Customer Service/Order Entry • Order Fulfillment • Shipping and Receiving • Returns Processing • Inventory Control • Business Accounting Services • Rights and Royalties • IT Services.

Job Information
Job Summary:
Responsible for regularly performing warehouse shipping and receiving duties and any and all duties of the Stock Clerk I, as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor/Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Other warehouse functions as instructed.
  • Replenish bins with books received from the stock pickers.
  • Dusting/Cleaning product and warehouse.
  • Pick and pack orders for outbound shipment.
  • Sweeping/mopping warehouse.
  • Move stock and packing materials.
  • Pack/repack loose stock to cartons.
Competencies:
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong judgement needed.

Additional Requirements
Education, Experience, or Certifications:
Education:
  • High school diploma preferred.
Experience:
  • Warehouse order fulfillment experience preferred.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Warehouse order fulfillment experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRT terminal preferred.
  • Ability to read and calculate simple mathematical problems required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Warehouse environment.
  • High dust, dirt environment.
  • High noise environment.
  • Daily attendance.
  • Ability to stand for long periods on concrete floor.
  • Ability to bend, crouch and stoop.
  • Exposure to moving machinery.
Pay Range:
  • $15.95 - $17.00 hourly
