Job Description
The Job
The Department of Behavioral Health, Workforce and Training Department (WET) is recruiting for Staff Training Instructors to plan, coordinate, assess, and deliver training to behavioral health staff and contract providers. Staff Training Instructors develop curricula and course materials; establish objectives and determine course content, sequence, and delivery systems; deliver instruction and present information to audiences of all sizes and compositions; and develop evaluation instruments to measure effectiveness of training programs. Instructors confer with subject matter experts and program staff to determine training needs and ensure technical accuracy of training materials.
The WET program is designed to provide education and training to DBH employees and contract agency staff, as well as address the workforce development needs of the mental health system throughout San Bernardino County. The purpose of WET is intended to improve the system of care and ensure that the services provided to the community are of the highest possible quality.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation: Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, and/or medical exam, prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County and State may be required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation (mileage reimbursement is available). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in English, education, business/public administration, communication, organizational development, computer science, criminal justice, healthcare administration, social/behavioral science, or related field of study. A list of completed college coursework or copy of legible transcripts MUST be provided if the applicant does not possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields listed above.
Substitution: Up to 15 semester (23 quarter) units of the required coursework may be substituted for one (1) year of military experience, which included training and/or community outreach/recruiting responsibilities or serving as military police.
  • AND- Experience: Two (2) years of full-time experience within a behavioral health, or social services, setting performing any of the following: Community Outreach, Curriculum Development or Training Coordination.
  • AND- One (1) year of experience conducting informal/formal trainings and/or presentations.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience in public speaking and training public safety or other public agency personnel, and community based organizations. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, crisis de-escalation skills, and extensive experience with Microsoft Office.

Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.
