Within Lumentum, the Commercial Lasers division enables advanced cutting, welding and other materials processing with a diverse product line-up of laser systems. These systems range from a few watts of laser power to 1000’s of watts.
The Commercial Lasers team is looking for a Staff Firmware Test Engineer to join our growing firmware team. As the subject matter expert of the firmware testing, you will help shape the future of test and automation of Laser device technology at Lumentum.
We are seeking a dynamic, highly skilled, and passionate senior-level firmware test engineer to support our firmware development activities. This important, technical position will work closely with the firmware team and other cross-functional teams to ensure the best test coverage for our products.
This is a hands-on role requiring an advanced understanding of quality assurance processes, test development, and bringing best of class products to market. This critical role will be acting as the safeguard for releasing high quality software and firmware to both our existing customers and for new product development.
This Staff Firmware Test Engineer will report to the FW Manager, and work alongside to grow and develop the firmware Quality Assurance team.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with firmware, integration, and hardware engineers to understand and dig into features and changes, build the required infrastructure, and develop test software tools to validate those changes.
  • Validate software features and embedded firmware changes (MCU and FPGA) by developing software and hardware test infrastructure (Python) and automated test cases (Python)
  • Creating bug reports in the issue tracking system and communicating findings to key cross-functional teams
  • Define, develop and implement software and firmware test plans and test cases, working closely with development teams.
  • Cross-discipline collaboration to create test processes, test specifications, regression tests, and firmware release testing at all stages of firmware development.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 6+ years working in a firmware test or firmware QA related role.
  • Experienced in version control (Git) and continuous integration.
  • Self-motivated, able to own firmware design test process from specification to implementation.
  • Test driven development experience using unit testing, automation testing, software in the loop, and hardware in the loop methodologies.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Deep knowledge of firmware development life cycle, software in the loop, hardware in the loop (HIL)
  • Experienced in Python test automation libraries and industry tools.
  • Extremely proficient Python programming
  • BS / MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of an Agile development environment
  • Strong Python programming experience
  • Familiar with firmware/software best practices and standards.
  • Previous working experience with building automation infrastructure such as Robot framework.
Base Salary Range: $103,600K-$148K (USD)
