Staff Appraiser Jobs

Pritchard & Abbott, Inc. (P&A), a 100% employee-owned consulting firm in the ad valorem tax world, is looking for a few good appraisers to assist our governmental clients timely and ethically fulfill their constitutional duty with regards to appraisal and taxation of oil and gas mineral interests, a unique type of income-producing Real property (as opposed to Personal property which moves around) per the Texas Property Tax Code. This job posting applies to our district offices in San Angelo AND in Henderson, Texas; i.e., we have more than one position to fill.

A background in the energy business is helpful but not required. A college degree (for example, petroleum engineering) is preferred but certainly not required if you can otherwise read, write in complete sentences, and analyze historical production, price, and expense data to formulate an opinion (that's what an appraisal is) and defend your conclusions of value. We practice mass-appraisal techniques, which means a single touch of a button results in estimated values for the entire population of properties in the county. However, you'll be required to review each property and make changes as desired so that the final value is neither too high nor too low, but just right (the "Goldilocks" zone). We give you all the tools to perform this job, so just bring your brain, along with a healthy dose of perseverance, and have a fabulous appraisal career!

Negotiation skills, strong work ethic, mental fortitude, and a sense of humor can go a long ways in this business. Being capable of playing well with others is a must. Being willing to learn and grow into a humble yet confident appraiser is a bonus, for both you and us!
