Job Description
We are seeking a Staff Accountant who will be responsible for maintaining the Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (A/P) processes for Silva. This will include posting journal entries, reconciling bank accounts, and reviewing A/R and A/P transactions posted by the Accounting Clerk. The position also owns the gathering and maintaining of all documentation for A/P vendor files in the ERP and the monthly sales and use tax analysis. On the A/R side, the Staff Accountant processes customer credit reference requests and freight claims for issues with customer deliveries. This position also serves as backup for some of the Accounting Clerk and Senior Accountant functions. The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller.
Basic Functions
  • Maintain vendor files including credit applications, tax exempt certificates, W-9's, and certificates of insurance from service providers.
  • Complete vendor credit applications.
  • Work with the MRO Coordinator to continuously improve the plant purchase order process and coding of expenses.
  • Review Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable transactions processed by Accounting Clerk.
  • Backup for Accounting Clerk in all functions.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned which may not be reoccurring.
  • Complete customer credit reference requests.
  • Finalize daily Accounts Receivable payment posting and send out reports.
  • Maintain raw material vendor contract payment schedules.
  • Process customer freight claims and sales credits.
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding checks.
  • Post journal entries.
  • Backup for Senior Accountant on monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Daily reconcile operating cash account.
  • Perform monthly sales tax analysis.
  • Enter wire and ACH payments via bank portal.
Preferred Skills
  • Team contributor with high independent productivity.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and ERP Software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills necessary to develop inter-departmental and customer relations.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.
