Main Duties/Responsibilities
As a Staff Accountant at Mel-O-Cream Donuts International, you will play a vital role in managing various aspects of the accounting function. You will be responsible for tasks such as general ledger entries, depreciation and fixed asset management, and period end financial reporting. This position requires a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Reporting to the Director of Finance, effective communication of accounting findings is crucial to this role.

Requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal comprehension
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relative work experience
Preference Will Be Given To Candidates With
  • Experience using SAP software
Job Duties
  • Record payments for accounts receivable
  • Process weekly employee reimbursement payments
  • Collaborate closely with auditors to ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Handle weekly entry and maintenance of prepaid expenses
  • Complete monthly sales tax entries with the Illinois Department of Revenue
  • Verify accruals for accuracy on a regular basis
  • Conduct daily and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable, including invoice entry and payments
  • Other job duties as assigned
  • Maintain records of fixed assets and manage depreciation
Non-Essential Job Functions
  • Punctuality is essential; arriving on time daily is vital due to the small office staff.
Physical Efforts:This role involves clear communication and manual dexterity, including using a computer keyboard and office equipment. Duties may require stooping or bending to access files and place supplies in cabinets. The Staff Accountant must be able to sit for extended periods.
Mental Ability:The role demands English proficiency, including reading, writing, and comprehension. Strong mathematical and statistical abilities are essential, as is the capability to analyze trends, patterns, and data. The Staff Accountant is expected to exercise discretion with confidential information.
Equipment:The Staff Accountant will utilize a personal computer in a LAN environment, printers, a collating copier, multi-line phone system, internal communications system, 10-key calculator, shredder, postal meter, and postal scale.
Accountability and Effectiveness:The Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Financial Controls and collaborates with all company employees. During the initial 30 working-day probationary period, performance will be evaluated. This period may be extended if the Company considers it is necessary.
Accuracy, consistency, and timeliness are critical in bookkeeping and accounting tasks. Breaches of confidential information will result in termination.
Effectiveness is measured by collaboration with colleagues, reporting capabilities, and professional relationships within the organization. Personal appearance and professional conduct are important indicators of success.
Working Hours:This is a salaried exempt position. Normal working hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. However, tasks beyond these hours may be required due to our 24-hour facility operation.
