The Staff Accountant I is responsible for recording journal entries for recurring cash receipts and disbursements, recording check deposits and cashier’s checks, initiating wire and book transfers, and assisting with other tasks as assigned. The position will also provide backup support for other Treasury staff. This is a hybrid position.
Responsibilities:
- Provide backup support for other Treasury team members. Backup duties include recording of property and land acquisitions, disposition proceeds, and other miscellaneous outgoing and incoming wire transfers. Other backup duties include issuance of cashier’s checks
- Record development milestone stage payments, stock option proceeds, bank fees, and other cash transactions as assigned.
- Assist with ad-hoc requests and special projects.
- Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.
- Record payroll transactions and bank fees monthly.
- Initiate wire transfers and book transfers as required.
- Scan and save all Treasury journal entries.
- Record daily ZBA (zero-balance account) transfers and automatic securitization transfers daily.
- Follows all organizational systems, programs, training, policies, and procedures as required and complies with relevant legal mandates. Seeks guidance as necessary.
- Maintain and update check deposit schedule; retrieve and record check deposits (requires physical presence in the office) and usage of cashier’s checks weekly.
- Generate tenant move out report and initiate required wire and book transfers.
- Assist with annual, interim, and roll-forward audit requests as delegated by management.
- Handles various other duties as delegated by direct supervisor/management.
- Actively supports and participates in the safety program, both for self-protection and the protection of other employees, by reading and abiding by all requirements in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (I2P2).
- Experience using Yardi property management software preferred but not required
- Positive attitude and ability to foster strong inter-departmental working relationships
- Must be able to communicate clearly, strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Minimum of (1 – 3) years of experience in accounting, finance, treasury or closely related roles
- Ability to organize work independently and consistently meet deadlines
- Ability to work with high volume of data
- General knowledge of accounting principles and basic understanding of ledger accounts
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Willingness to assist others
- Detail-oriented, well-organized, and self-motivated
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written
- Manual dexterity required for occasional reaching and lifting of small objects, and operating office equipment.
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience working in real estate industry is a plus but not required
- Basic Excel skills
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field required
