Merchants Insurance Group, is a leading Property and Casualty Insurer in the Northeast, and is looking for a Sr. Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant for our Eastern Regional Underwriting team located in Hauppauge, New York.

At this time, our colleagues are working a Hybrid work schedule. The Hybrid work schedule requires 8 full days per month in the office, with the option to work the remaining days per month at home or in the office. This exciting new Hybrid Work benefit will offer colleagues a flexible work schedule with the ability to remain connected with your Merchants team and colleagues.

The Sr. Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant will become part of a dedicated underwriting team focused on setting up new business, quotes, renewals and endorsements into our company policy writing system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assists in the achievement of commercial lines production goals for the assigned territory.
• Responds to inquiries from agents regarding policy ratings and billing status.
• Updates rating information, verifies policy information, and works with the underwriting team to meet service standards and company goals.
• Reviews loss control surveys to verify policy exposures for proper rating.
• Assists in the achievement of commercial lines loss ratio objectives for the assigned territory.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• ImageRight knowledge is a plus.
• 3+ years’ work experience in an Insurance Company or Agency.
• Computer experience including Microsoft Word experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Prior experience in insurance rating and knowledge of insurance terms.
