Senior Field Inspector (Engineer)
About the role
The Field Inspector is responsible for providing support and conducting inspections and audits on contractor work sites for New York City Transit projects. Monitor nightly/daily construction civil activities to ensure contractor is compliant with Boldyn construction drawings, engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions. Work with contractors and NYCT to empower spontaneous changes (within given guidelines) to maintain fluidity of the project. Ensure project closure through the Punch list completion and acceptance.
What you’ll be doing
  • Ensure construction work complies with all construction drawings, engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions.
  • Set clear expectations, make informed decisions, convey instructions, and provide feedback to the team.
  • Lead, direct, and provide guidance to the Field Inspection team.
  • Maintain daily construction reports, including activities and quantities completed, quality issues, changes daily labor time sheets with cost codes, and red line drawings.
  • Assist subcontractors in the field with any upcoming questions or issues.
  • Assist Construction Managers and Field Supervisor on expediting subcontractors.
  • Monitor installation of POE conduit/s and cabling is done+ as per drawing specifications daily (night shift or day shift).
  • Continually find solutions to conflicts between drawings, field conditions, and specifications by conferring with the Design Engineers. Coordinate these solutions with the various sub-trades.
  • Ensure approved drawings and their approved revisions are utilized in the field as issued by the Engineering Manager.
  • Coordinate and participate in inspection requests with Quality Manager, Verizon, subcontractors as required.
  • Report accurate quantities for labor cost reports and accurately monitor material ledgers to determine if quantities remaining in the estimate are sufficient to complete the project in the field.
  • Approve As-Builts of work completed using maintained red line drawings.
  • Inspect installation work for conformance with design drawings and specifications.
  • Communicate with on-site NYCT and Sub contractor representatives.
  • Provide access to Transit Wireless Base Station Hotels and supervision of subcontractors.
  • Ensure works are conducted in accordance with Safety requirements and report any issues to the Transit Wireless Safety Manager
  • Monitor Fiber splicing, OTDR and Throughput testing by contractors and prepare reports.
  • Other duties as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Participate in punch list walkthroughs. Prepare punch list and other checklists as required.
  • Lead by example, promoting integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior among the Field Inspection team.

  • Experience in telecom installation and working on NYCT projects preferred.
  • Must be detailed-oriented and have analysis, problem identification, and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability days, nights, and weekends.
  • Experience working with NYCDOT and NYSDOT and ECS or Verizon ducts.
  • IBwave Certificate is a plus.
  • Experience working with contractors or inspection consultants is a big plus.
  • Certification in fibre testing and splicing is a plus, but not required.
  • 10 years’ experience, prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certification in Anritsu Site Master Anritsu PIM Master is a plus, but not required.
