Sr. Discovery Scientist
Bayer seeks a Sr. Discovery Scientist who will apply principles of synthetic biology on genetic pathways impacting plant reproductive biology. The selected candidate will join a team working to improve breeding processes and to develop new crop product concepts.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Sr. Discovery Scientist, are to:
- Communicate proposed efforts, ongoing activities, and results to a diverse set of stakeholders;
- Stay abreast of literature, competitive landscape, and collaboration opportunities, while contributing to enhance Bayer intellectual property position;
- Ideate, plan, design, and execute synthetic biology activities targeting reproductive functions in crop and model plants;
- Partner with other functions and teams within and outside of Bayer to deliver of common objectives;
- Support the Health Safety and Environment (HSE), Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture in the site;

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- Familiarity with plant reproductive biology, genetics, physiology, and genomics;
- Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously;
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Biochemistry, Developmental Biology, or related area;
- Understanding of plant development, especially genetic pathways involved in plant reproduction;
- Ability to influence and enlist key stakeholders, present results, offer solutions, incorporate feedback, and drive toward positive outcomes;
- Experience working collaboratively in cross functional and cross cultural teams to achieve common goals;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in designing transgenic constructs and plant transformation methods;
- At least 3+ years of relevant experience after completion of a relevant Ph.D.;
- Experience with synthetic biology principles (especially as it relates to promoters, protein regulation, RNAi, and other expression control systems);
- Experience conducting field research in crop science, especially with transgenic traits.
Domestic relocation may be available
