JOB SUMMARY : Responsible for providing assistance to the supervising speech and language pathologist in all aspects of speech and language interventions for students with disabilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only and are subject to flexibility dependent on organizational needs.
- Contributes to progress reports by collecting data and other documentation as requested by supervising Physical Therapist.
- Plans and implements therapeutic programs, based on individual’s goals and objectives, under the supervision of a licensed Speech Therapist.
- Completes Medicaid forms as directed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]
- Participates in IEP and Speech Therapy meetings.
- Consults regularly with supervising Speech Therapist concerning implementing, interventions, modifications, status of therapy, modifying adaptive equipment, and therapy activities.
- Organize, inventory and maintain equipment.
- Assist with clerical and logistical needs of the program.
- Assist the Speech and Language Pathologist in providing services for students with disabilities, including scheduling, screening, observations, instruction and data collection in classrooms and/or individual and small group settings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The minimum amounts of formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be met for a candidate to be considered for a position
- Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups
- Ability and desire to work as a team member
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Ability to actively participate in a Professional Learning Community
- Basic organizational skills
- Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
- Student teaching/practicum/internship experience that meets or exceeds Colorado's requirements
- Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire
- Bachelor's degree
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : The minimum certifications and licenses that must be met, valid, and unexpired for a candidate to be considered for a position
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Initial School Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) authorization
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Any job-related formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, licenses, and other criteria that are inessential and in addition to the minimum qualifications, certifications, and licenses
- Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Formal education beyond a Bachelor’s degree
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS : The physical exertion, cognitive capacities, and work environments required to perform a position’s duties and responsibilities
- May be required to assist students with custodial needs (feeding, toilet, etc.) depending on assignment
