Job Description
Description

This is a promotional/open opportunity open to interested candidates and this recruitment will establish an Eligibility List for the current Speech-Language Pathology Assistant vacancy as well as any future vacancies. This list will be active for three (3) months with the possibility to be extended.

The Speech/Language Pathology Assistant works with the speech-language pathologist staff in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech-language pathology services for pupils with speech and language disorders including articulation/phonology, cognition, motor speech, dysphasgia, voice, fluency, craniofacial anomalies, hearing and child and adult language and assist in providing training and use of augmentative and alternative communication.

The following 10-month calendar year vacancy is available:

  • 30 hours per week (.75 FTE)
  • Positions greater than 20 hours per week qualify for district-paid health and wellness benefits for employee and their eligible dependents.
Position Schedule (for any future vacancies):
  • Positions in this classification typically work 10 months of the year.
This is a promotional/open opportunity, which means that current monthly-salaried employees receive precedence over other candidates on the eligible list.
  • For a promotional/open posting, the top ten internal applicants will be provided unless there is an insufficient number and then the list will be supplemented with the top external applicants to make up the ten (Employment Regulations for the Classified Service of the San Diego Unified School District: Article 2, Section 9).
Candidates considered for positions that require bilingual skills will be invited to a Performance Test (Qualifying Only) for oral and written fluency. Bilingual positions qualify for a 5% bilingual differential.

The
Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will be paid on the OTBS Salary Schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to graduation from a recognized school or program for Speech/Language Pathology Assistant as part of an AA degree in Science including specialized coursework, observation supervision, and fieldwork experience. Prior experience in educational or clinical settings is preferred.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided).
  • Possession of valid registration as a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant with the California Speech/Language Pathology Board.
  • Foreign Equivalency Certification: Individuals who have completed high school or college-level coursework at an institution in a country other than the United States must provide a Foreign Equivalency Certification to satisfy the education requirement.
