Job Description
Position Summary
The Special Situations Analyst is a member of the corporate credit research team within the Fixed Income Group. This role reports to the Head of Credit Research and works closely with other investment professionals in a team-oriented investing environment. The analyst presents investment recommendations in stressed, distressed and event-driven credit securities across sectors. The analyst leads all aspects of TCW’s investments undergoing both in-court and out-of-court restructuring processes including representing the firm on creditor committees. As part of the role, the analyst is responsible for managing relationships with financial advisors and legal advisors.
This position can be based out of TCW’s Los Angeles or New York office. If work location is New York, the incumbent must be willing to travel to Los Angeles on a regular basis for meetings and team collaboration.
Essential Duties
  • Develop and maintain relationships with restructuring financial advisors, bankruptcy attorneys, management teams, sell-side desk analysts and buy-side analysts
  • Create detailed financial modeling to determine security-level valuation for firms experiencing financial distress or undergoing balance sheet restructuring
  • Work closely in partnership with sector credit analysts, traders and portfolio managers in a team-based investment process
  • Analyze merits of investments across the capital structure drawing upon firm understanding of related legal documentation such as credit agreements, indentures, etc.
  • Present investment memorandum including industry analysis, financial projections, covenant reviews, valuation analysis, relative value analysis, restructuring analysis, scenario analysis and recovery analysis
  • Ability to negotiate complex restructuring transactions on behalf of TCW investors, drawing upon deep understanding of Chapter 11 process
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a competitive university or college with strong academic performance and relevant coursework
  • In-depth knowledge of the Chapter 11 process and previous experience serving on ad-hoc or formal creditor committees
  • Solid proficiency with Bloomberg, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Minimum 6 years of buy-side or sell-side research and/or investment banking or restructuring advisory
  • Excellent finance, accounting and math skills

Estimated Compensation
Base Salary: For CA & NY based position, the base salary range is $175k to $200k. This is an anticipated range only.
Other Compensation: Eligible to be considered for an annual discretionary bonus
