The Activation Team, part of the Horticulture Forestry and Environmental Education Division is seeking Special Events Assistants to help support special events throughout Montgomery County including, concerts, races, art programs, festivals, holidays events, community events, and other programming.

We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about events and outdoor programming to join our team. Events and day-to-day activities are constantly evolving allowing for creative thinking and on-the-fly decision making. Applicants seeking to grow experience in parks and recreation and/or special events are encouraged to apply.

This position pays at a rate of $15.10 per hour to $19.75 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
Position is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland with events throughout Montgomery County.
Work schedule will vary depending on event’s needs but may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Supports hands-on activities and programming at events.
  • Provides exemplary customer service when interacting with event attendees.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • Monitors events during weekend and evening hours.
  • Helps maintain special events warehouse and inventory.
  • Provides support to the activation team and staff.
  • Assists with implementation of special events.
  • Assists with loading and unloading of equipment for events.
  • Assists with set-up and clean-up of special events equipment including tables, chairs, tents, signage, and other equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Walk at least half a mile and up and down moderate hills without difficulty.
  • Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license.
  • Tolerance for working in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, humidity, and cold.
  • Stand for at least two hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of special events
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Experience with special events equipment.
  • Experience driving large vehicles (pick-up truck and/or box truck).
  • Bilingual/multilingual
