We have a vacancy for a Special Agent in our Criminal Enforcement Unit (CEU). Special Agents are duly sworn law enforcement officers and must meet the Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment (Download PDF reader). Although they are exempt from civil service, they have many of the same benefits as general service employees, including a generous insurance and leave package. They also belong to the Public Safety Employees Retirement System (PSERS) and have a flexible work schedule of 160 hours within 28-day work periods.
If you do not currently hold a law enforcement certification, you will have the opportunity to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Academy through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center once hired.
These positions may be assigned to our Federal Way field office, or a home office located in close proximity to the assigned caseload.
Criminal Enforcement Agents assigned to this unit are based throughout the state and assigned to a geographical area. CEU Special Agents do not have a “desk job,” working all aspects of the criminal case allows you the freedom and flexibility to use your imagination and skills to investigate a variety of crimes. CEU Agents investigating illegal gambling activities that occur at licensed and unlicensed facilities and individuals or organizations involved in crimes involving gambling or have a gambling nexus. They investigate a variety of crimes including, but not limited to: Criminal profiteering, loansharking, extorsion, animal fighting, illegal gambling, sports wagering, money laundering, and the seizing of assets. CEU Special Agents have an industry reputation of excellence, specializing in unique areas of criminal law. Our Special Agents receive extensive training, internal and external, and attend conferences across the country.
Some of what you will do:
- Conduct field interviews, physical and electronic surveillance, drafting and serving search warrants, tactical entry and making custodial arrests.
- Work in partnership with federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies providing your specialized skills.
- Develop probable cause through all legally available means, including working in an undercover role and managing confidential informants

Special Agent starting salary ranges from $61,591 - $82,865 annually, depending upon your education and experience.
NOTE: 5% Premium Pay will be added to salary above for duty stations in King County.

Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.
- High school graduation, GED, or equivalent education.
- Degree’s that are job related
- Current Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
- Certifications that are job related
- Experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer as a state, municipal, county, federal or tribal officer.
- Documented fluency in Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodian, Korean, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish languages.
- Experience in complex criminal, financial, and/or digital/cyber/internet investigations
- Active or Retired Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Successful completion of the WA State Basic Law Enforcement Academy, or equivalent law enforcement academy.

As a Washington State limited law enforcement officer, the Special Agent is required to complete a basic law enforcement academy or equivalency. If you do not hold a current law enforcement certification you may be required to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Academy through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center. Prior experience and/or training as a fully commissioned peace officer, limited jurisdiction law enforcement officer for the State of Washington may substitute for this requirement.
