Hourly Rate: $23.04, Annual Rate: $47,913.25 Effective as of: 08-16-2022


**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY: Demonstrate ability as a Spanish language translator and interpreter. Translate communication from English to Spanish and/or Spanish to English. Occasionally interpret the English language for Spanish language speakers. Must be proficient and literate in both English and Spanish.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Translate a wide variety of information such as school/family notices, school rules, District required forms, legal documents, school brochures, curriculum, etc. from English to Spanish and vice versa and word process forms.
Occasionally function as a communication link between non English proficient and limited English proficient families and district personnel. Interpret faithfully always conveying the thought, intent and spirit of the speaker, student, parent, teacher, and/or administrator while maintaining confidentiality, impartial attitude, and professional demeanor at all times.
Occasionally provide follow-up interpreting/ translating services to school and district staff as required to service the education, social and cultural needs of non English proficient and limited English proficient students.
Be adaptable to schedule changes.
Function as a collaborative member of a team of the Jeffco Translation Services team to provide translation and interpretation services to schools, families and community.
Assist in coordination of the work of the Translation Office.
Utilize translation software in completion of translation requests.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High School Diploma/ GED required, plus up to two (2) years of college in advanced Spanish courses.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year experience in translation and interpretation. Ability to work with diverse community, especially parents and students.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Requires oral and written communications, interpersonal, organizational, public relations, phone etiquette, and computer skills in both English and Spanish. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Applicants will be given two separate paragraphs to translate. 1). English to Spanish 2). Spanish to English
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: None required
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. This position serves as a resource in the area of translation regarding English and Spanish.

CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons in the same unit/building, with persons outside department/building, students, parents, applicants, and the general public to maintain relationships, resolve problems, and negotiate matters. May involve routine and/or confidential matters.
SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Medium exposure to self regarding repetitive motion injuries due to key boarding. Low exposure to self regarding cuts and bruises due to typical office duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, analyze, communication, coordinate, instruct, and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to synthesize, evaluate, and negotiate. The employee is occasionally required to copy and compile.
JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by supervisor, required judgment when translating/ interpreting to families regarding District policies and procedures. Supervisor is always involved in the approval of decisions. Errors would only be in translations.
DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Duties require the ability to read a document in English or hear an English person speak and be able to infer and determine intent of language to make the Spanish translation or interpretation accurate. Translator needs a mastery of both English and Spanish and be willing to ask for clarification as needed.
