Software Engineer - Lidar

Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. In This Role, You'll

• Mentoring junior colleagues
• Creating the embedded software that brings Waymo’s lidars to life
• Reading and reviewing schematics and software
• Debugging tricky interactions in a complex embedded system
• Programming in C++, Python, and Verilog
• Designing elegant flexible embedded system architectures with EE Team (so we do less of the previous bullet)
• Hands on bring-up of prototype hardware and test and manufacturing fixtures

At a Minimum We’d Like You To Have

• 10 years industry and/or postgraduate experience
• Grasp of common protocols: I2C, SPI, MIPI
• Reading schematics and electronic component datasheets
• FPGA, Verilog programming
• Proficient C++, Python
• Hands on hardware experience, probing PCBs with lab instruments

It's Preferred If You Have

• Proficient in Linux environment
• Familiarity with power supplies, buck-boost converters, electric motors
• Optics / lasers
• Basic knowledge of Altium
• Real time control in embedded systems at nanosecond, microsecond, and millisecond timescales
• Comfortable performing minor board rework

Some opportunity for travel, but not a requirement.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. $221,000—$276,000 USD
