Software Development Engineer Ii

The High Availability team is looking for a talented Software Development Engineer II. The High Availability (HA) team has been a cornerstone of Substrate (Office 365) for many years. We provide uninterrupted and reliable access to clients’ data, which is based on backend servers of Exchange Online (EXO). We continue to strive to identify more paths for Cost Of Goods Sold (COGS) savings while maintaining four 9s availability for our clients. In the meantime – we expand our charter and explore into new areas such as power saving, deploying our backend capacity in Azure, network optimization and Cost Of Goods Sold (COGS) saving, chaos engineering, data analytics and failure prediction. We have always invested heavily into backend performance analysis, monitoring and alerting, we have introduced elements of chaos engineering into production pipeline and looking into improving them – by using means of statistical analysis and data analytics.
Responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer II you will:

• Explore, design, implement and drive to deploy new EXO-on-Azure (Exchange Online on Azure) solutions.
• Own feature projects directly impacting behavior of High Availability component of Office365 that is responsible for providing 99.99% backend availability.
• Write production code as well as monitoring solutions, create reports and conduct performance analysis of Office 365 backend cluster, database replication, networking layer.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with building monitoring tools
• 2+ years of software development
• Excellent C#/C++ coding and debugging skills.
• Experience in performance analysis (preferably backend components)
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent field of Engineering or Science
• Experience in statistical analysis, data analytics
• Experience (designing, optimizing, supporting, etc.) with large, distributed storage systems.
• Experience writing services and micro-services on middle- or back-end tier.
• Knowledge of scripting languages, including PowerShell

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
