Job Description
Maxim Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, The Speech Language Pathologist in providing speech and language services. The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant will have clinical, educational, documentation, and treatment related activities while working within the scope of responsibilities/ plan of care assigned by the Speech Language Pathologist and/or physician.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides components of a speech and language program as specified in the treatment plan developed by a supervising SLP in accordance with the physicians plan of care according to state regulationsSelf-identifies as SLPA to families, students, patients, clients, staff and othersAssists the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretationAssists the SLP during assessment of students, clients, and patients exclusive of administration and/or interpretationAssists the SLP with bilingual translation during screening and assessment activities exclusive of interpretationProvides timely and accurate documentation of student, client and patient performance and reports this information to the supervising SLPPrograms and provides instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devicesDemonstrates or shares information with patients, families, caregivers, and staff regarding feeding strategies developed and directed by the SLP as State Practice Acts permitMay adapt educational materials and equipment for the purpose of providing intervention and/or meeting the individual patient, client, student needsMay serve as an interpreter for patients, clients, students, and families who do not speak EnglishProvides services under the supervision of the SLP in another language for individuals who do not speak English and English-language learnersMay assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the SLPCleans and maintains equipment used in the field in accordance with manufactures guidelinesReports reaction(s) to treatment or change(s) in condition of the patient, client, and student to the supervising SLP and alternate clinical designee as indicatedMaintains communication with the company and other personnel caring for the client, patient, student to assure that their efforts effectively complement each other and support the objectives outlined in the plan of care within the scope of practiceMay participate in formal care conferences, parent conferences, and intra-disciplinary team meetings only with the presence of the supervising SLPSupports the supervising SLP in research projects, in-service training, public relations programs and marketing programsProvides information to emergency response agencies for individuals who have communication and/or swallowing disordersPromotes early identification and early intervention activitiesMay present primary prevention information to individuals or groups known to be at risk for communication disordersExhibits compliance with The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) andFamily Educational Rights and Privacy Act regulationsActively participates in the required supervision by a SLP to ensure quality of care to all persons servedAdheres to company policies and proceduresConsistently models companys philosophy of customer service and complianceComplies with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding professional standards and practice standardsShall achieve and maintain professional competencePerforms other duties as assigned/necessaryMinimum Requirements: Must be a graduate of a SLPA program with an associates degree, or have a bachelors degree in a speech-language pathology or communication disorders programSuccessful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of supervised field work experience or its clinical experience equivalentCurrent certification or licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant in the State of PracticeMust comply with accepted professional standards and practiceOne (1) year of prior professional Speech-Language Pathology Assistant experience preferred; home care experience preferredMust possess and maintain current CPR certification in accordance with State regulation(s)Current record of PPD or chest X-ray results, if applicableAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, coworkers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age
