Job Summary:
NOTE: This is a Research SLP position in the Vanderbilt Stuttering Lab.

JOB SUMMARY
Perform under minimal supervision a wide range of tasks involved in conducting and managing largescale research projects with children who stutter, or that are at risk for developmental stuttering, and typically developing children and their families. These tasks will include conducting diagnostic and experimental research procedures, for example, the evaluation of speech, language, and stuttering, collecting data on cognitive and emotional processes, and working with a team to collect physiological data during a variety of experimental procedures. The applicant will communicate with participants, coordinate the lab schedule, and perform recruitment activities. The applicant will work closely with the principal investigator of the project as well as colleagues within the research laboratory. Lastly, coordination and collaboration with undergraduate and graduate assistants and faculty from multiple disciplines/departments/institutions will be required.

Basic Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Experience with or willingness to learn approaches to enhance participant recruitment and retention
  • Experience with REDcap databases is preferred, but not required.
  • Masters degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders / Speech-language Pathology
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience or willingness to learn technologies/methodologies such as ECG/EDA, EEG/ERP, fMRI, and eye tracking
  • Familiarity with basic office applications, including excel, and basic computing skills
  • Interest to work in an academic research environment.
  • Prior experience with administration of standardized speech, language, and cognitive assessments with children who do and do not stutter.
  • Ability to manage schedule of large cohort of participants
Preferences:
  • Experience working in an academic research environment
  • Advanced degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech-language Pathology
  • Past experience in carrying out research specifically with children who stutter and their families
Key Functions and Expected Performances
Study Coordination:
  • Collection and management of all other study related data (e.g., data on cognitive and emotional processes, physiological data)
  • Participant recruitment, screening, consenting, and scheduling
  • Maintenance of REDCap and other databases
  • Performance of speech-language evaluations for research participants
  • Various other tasks related to facilitating and coordinating research
  • Management of lab materials and equipment
  • Management of IRBs
Assistance in Development/Modification of Procedures and Techniques:
  • Development and trouble-shooting of new experimental paradigms
  • Contribute to adapting study procedures and paradigms to be engaging for young children
  • Work with the research team to fine-tune existing experimental paradigms
  • Assistance with supporting materials for grant proposals, manuscripts, and presentations
Study Implementation:
  • Develop or revise as needed plans to ensure a) fidelity in administration of experimental procedures and b) reliability in scoring/coding of assessments and entry of data
  • Assist in preparation of results for dissemination via various means, including oral presentations and manuscripts
  • Maintain knowledge of scientific trends in research in stuttering through literature reviews, attendance at meetings, conferences, and seminars
  • Develop or revise as needed manuals relevant to diagnostic, experimental and analytic procedures
  • Supervise research assistants’ collection and coding of, or directly collect and code, data from various experimental protocols
  • Assist with collection and analysis of psychophysical and physiological measures, such as heart rate, EEG/ERP, etc.
  • Directly administer, and/or supervise research assistants’ administration of, standardized speech, language and cognitive assessments
  • Record, compile, and communicate data and results to PI
Coordination of Research-Related Activities:
  • Coordinate times and locations for in-person meetings and/or conference calls with collaborators across departments and institutions
  • Assist with submissions to, and travel arrangements for, several interdisciplinary conferences, trainings, professional development activities annually
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, and supervising/coordinating undergraduate and/or graduate research assistants
  • Assist in development of parent and/or clinician friendly newsletters, emails, press releases, social media and/or web content that will ensure effective translational of laboratory findings from research to practice
  • Ensure that all student research assistants are in compliance with IRB, meeting requirements for course credit in their respective departments, and on-track to achieve their personal lab training objectives
