Position Overview
Under general direction, serves as a full-line supervisor at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park; supervises and participates in maintenance of equipment and vehicles; coordinates various construction of ongoing projects with planners, contractors, and engineers; assists with pheasant hunting program and other special hunts.
Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as full-line supervisor:
- Prepares and signs performance evaluations
- Approves time off
- Counsels staff regarding work performance
- Adjusts first level grievances
- Effectively recommends and imposes discipline up to and including discharge
- Reassigns staff to meet day-to-day operating needs
- Assigns and reviews work
- Determines and recommends staffing needs
- Provides guidance and training to assigned staff
- Establishes annual goals and objectives
2. Supervises and participates in maintenance of equipment and vehicles:
- Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, and other equipment
- Reviews to ensure vehicles have current safety inspections
3. Coordinates various construction of ongoing projects with planners, contractors, and engineers:
- Attends meetings and reviews construction plans to ensure locations, etc. are prepared for projects
4. Assists with pheasant hunting program and other special hunts:
- Supervises planting and cultivation of wildlife food plots
- Assists with implementation of the field trail program
- Traps and releases game for field trials
- Supervises and participates in operation of the hunter check station
- Assigns hunters to hunting areas
5. Provides input and gathers data for preparation of the annual and seasonal plans of work:
- Provides input for preparation of the site’s annual budget submittal
6. Assumes responsibilities of the Site Superintendent in the absence thereof
7. Prepares and reviews the fuel reconciliation reports as well as the camping fee reports
8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires one year’s related supervisory experience.
- Requires education experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with courses in public administration, park and recreation administration, natural resource administration or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, conservation, structural grounds maintenance, public relations, and personnel administration.
- Two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
- Two (2) years of experience assigning and supervising the work of assistants and staff members.
- One year (1) of experience in evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations on policies and procedures.
- One (1) year of experience in operating and maintaining tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, artifacts, buildings, and grounds.

- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain pesticide and/or herbicide applicator’s license within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to work under adverse environmental conditions on a year-round basis.
