Summary
- Research and place purchase requests for new technologies, as needed.
- Participate in IHP-wide committees and initiatives pertaining to SBE and teaching innovation.
- Manage correspondence and respond to inquiries for the Simulation Lab.
- Electronically organize, store, and audit reference materials, equipment specifications, maintenance agreements, and warranties.
- Organize, update, and disseminate simulation scenarios with setup guidelines and teaching resources for faculty and staff.
- Produce annual (or more frequent) utilization reports of disposables and equipment to improve efficiency and inform resource planning.
- Utilize SBE resources effectively and efficiently across departments and units.
- Develop and maintain dashboards for the IHP community to align efforts and build efficiency into SBE activities.
- Provide orientation to relevant groups to simulation principles, procedures, equipment, safety practices, and facilities.
- Manage inventory and ordering of supplies for SBE activities, including accurate cost allocations to the respective training program or unit.
- Act as primary contact for all simulation equipment vendors as well as external groups seeking support/services from IHP for SBE activities.
- Coordinate with the Registrar, Simulated Participant Program, and Clinical Learning Lab teams to manage scheduling, facility reservations, and equipment and staffing needs for SBE activities.
- Provide first-line audiovisual technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and components, troubleshoot and/or escalate complex issues to the IHP Information Technology team.
- During live simulations, operate SBE-equipment and software.
- Prior to SBE activity, set-up space as specified in the simulation design template, ensuring technology (manikins and software) is functional and ready for the scheduled activity.
- Maintain technology issues log.
- Operate and stay current on various simulation technologies including anatomic models, task trainers, high fidelity computer-based simulators, and virtual reality-based simulators.
- Assist faculty with setting up live AV viewing of simulations using SimulationIQ software.
- Coordinate with IHP Information Technology to manage technology issues related to simulation-based equipment.
- Manage supplemental technologies to record simulations, manage case information, collect faculty and participant evaluations, track learner hours, and report on utilization.
- Troubleshoot technological issues with simulation-equipment, manikins, and accompanying computers/tablets.
- Break down equipment and return space to baseline state after the end of SBE activities.
- Regularly maintain software and equipment within warranty guidelines.
- Procure and apply moulage to standardized patients and simulators.
- Develop written and/or digital guides to support a user’s independent ability to use manikins, task trainers, and other high-fidelity equipment.
- Develop efficient processes and innovative solutions to address SBE needs of faculty and learners.
- Participate in live simulations, as a confederate, simulated participant, or operations controller.
- Associate degree in a health professions field or equivalent experience in a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Professional background in healthcare and simulation technology
- Experience with use of simulation-based technology for teaching and learning, ideally related to health professions education and/or health care delivery
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) is preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.
- Demonstrates commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity.
- Maintains and continues to develop familiarity and technical expertise in use and maintenance of simulation equipment.
- Able to prioritize and effectively allocate time and resources to move projects and initiatives to completion.
- Possesses excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Possesses excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft Office Suite tools commonly used at the IHP (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Able to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
- Self-motivated and independent with the ability to work effectively in a team environment of multiple stakeholders.
- Possesses excellent communication skills in relation to faculty, instructors, students, staff, other IHP employees and visitors in a positive, professional manner
- Self-directed learner with interest in continuing to develop professional knowledge, skills, and competencies in simulation operations and education.
