Job Title: Short-Term Summer Hire, Agriculture/Livelihoods, PIQA
Department/Location: Remote
FLSA: Non-Exempt, full time, 35 hours/week
Reports To: Senior Technical Advisor – Agricultural Recovery and Resilience
Duration: June 1 – August 30, 2023
About CRS:
Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS works to save, protect, and transform lives in need in more than 100 countries, without regard to race, religion or nationality. CRS’ relief and development work is accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance and peacebuilding.
As an organization that celebrates and promotes diversity and inclusion, and which is committed to the ongoing work of racial equity and anti-racism, we welcome applicants of all backgrounds. CRS strongly encourages students from HSIs (Hispanic-Serving Institutions) and HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) as well as all students who identify as Latinx and/or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) to apply.
Lastly, we welcome as a part of our staff and as partners people of all faiths and secular traditions who share our values and our commitment to serving those in need.
Background:
The Program Impact and Quality Assurance department (PIQA) includes a diverse range of technical teams working in the fields of agriculture, health, education, gender, WASH, youth, etc. Within PIQA, the Agriculture and Livelihoods (A/L) team supports the development of rural communities towards resilient food and economic security, through technical assistance to CRS Country Programs and projects. The A/L team also supports CRS’ Advocacy, Policy, and Marketing/Communications teams in influencing the thinking of governments, donors, partners, and the public, through evidence generation and communications products.
Purpose:
Building resilience occurs in work done by many teams in both CRS’ Humanitarian Response Department (HRD) and Program Impact and Quality Assurance department (PIQA). Because work is embedded in different teams, there is a need to better coordinate these efforts towards a single framework and documentation of resilience at CRS. The PIQA Senior Technical Advisor for Recovery and Resilience has led these efforts but additional support is required. Bringing together stories of resilience building into a list of projects (and their respective characteristics) and developing a portfolio of case studies will enable the agency to more clearly articulate to donors, partners, and stakeholders how CRS builds resilience and what are the impacts.
